If anything, I think it's a combination of everything.

Why does this organization (that no one respects) get to just decide randomly that they're going to force the original GN'R on stage together just because they said so?

The Hall of Fame has stuck around long enough, been put over by the media, that the whole place and ceremony has become symbolic. It's become something more than "just a building in Cleveland".

So you have to respect that, and obviously Axl doesn't. Which is fine.

The problem is the fans do. And you can't control public reaction, opinion, or outrage (something Axl still doesn't understand).

Slash, Duff, Steven & Matt "got this", and went. Axl, Izzy & Dizzy didn't, and ultimately Axl took the fall because of the vastly smaller fan fare of Izzy & Dizzy, compared to an icon like Axl, and such a controversial icon such as Axl.

Like I said, no one is forcing them. But because of the publicity, and symbolism of it, unless you want to come across as a "dick", you have to go.

Me?

You know, i've ALWAYS HATED "team building" shit with jobs. Retreat bullshit with a bunch of people you don't want to be around, spending all day shaking hands and smiling to people I don't really care about. Having to sit in a class all day talking about workplace unity.

I bet you don't LOVE meetings. But you go. Why? The job dictates. And who dictates? The boss. And why is that? ummm.... I don't really know. You just HAVE to be at the meeting. No one can really explain it. And if you aren't, other than being sick, you are hated, resented, and seen as a bum, lazy, and "too good" for your fellow co-workers, and eventually labeled as "troubled", and a problem employee.

So excuse me, that after years of MAKING MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars, while the rest of us have to suck it up and be somewhere every day "for someone else", that for goddamn ONCE Axl Rose doesn't show up for a few hours, suck it up, shoot the bull with the old guys, Slash included, shake some hands, take an award, and play a couple songs and go the fuck home.

So much out of his life and time. So hard for him. I bet the show lasted shorter than half a work day.

Who gives the Hall the authority? The symbolism and public perception. No different than taking 40 minute bathroom breaks at work. Do you have to go? Yes. Are you allowed to? Yes. But for some damn reason your co-workers hate your guts when you take that long, while they're working for their money.

If Axl Rose felt this strongly about the HOF, he could've made these feeling apparently months and months ago, and without a prompt response he could've said months ago "I won't be there, and here's why". Not waiting 3 damn days before the event for the self-aggrandizing moment that he did.

"The Hall doesn't dictate when GN'R gets back together"

No, and apparently NEITHER DOES GN'R.

Only Axl Rose, don't get the two confused. And I have no doubt that if Axl had said "yes", Izzy would've been there also.

I don't believe Axl gives a flying shit about the bands "not in".

Totally Agree.
He inducted Elton John for fuck's sake. He was happy to play ball when he was in his prime.

I don't think Axl's mind works that way about other bands at all. He could give two shits about who is in there or not. He has never been 'a musicians musician'. He doesn't hang out in the scene or do collaborations (except Baz).

He rarely even spoke to his back up bands; hell he rarely spoke to his own band for the last legs of the UYI tour!

There it is. All said for me in one perfect paragraph. Well done man.

Some of the battered wives in Axl's fanbase would call that "keeping your integrity".:ummm:

Is he making that up or did Axl actually rip up the invitation and throw it out a window alongside a television set? 16

He's right though. Only big time rocker never to suck industry cock.

I'm on the fence with this.  I get the "he doesn't owe anybody anything" mentality to a point.  Having said that, we are essentially his boss (using Axlin's analogy from above).  We've provided the means for him to live the life he lives and do the things he does.  We pay his salary (indirectly).  Sure, we gave it freely, but so does your company when they pay you.  As a result, you're expected to do certain things.

I see both sides of it.  I get why he would feel he owes us nothing; I get why some people would feel he owes us a lot.  I fall in the middle somewhere...probably closer to the not owing us anything other than an effort when he actually decides to do something.  That's the part I've found troubling.  Either do it or don't do it.  The half-assed thing bugs the crap out of me.

I get that, but just like with a boss (in most States), Axl's employment is "at-will" so if you truly don't like how he's going about his work, fire him.

I've been firing him for almost 20 years now.  tongue  So have a lot of people; especially in the US.  Unfortunately the rest of the board of directors (especially the foreign ones) don't want to hold him to the same standards that I'd like to see and keep sending him checks anyway.

For along time he listened to me and went back into hiding, but lately he's just been half-assing everything.  He won't do it right, and he won't put 100% effort into it.  He's shown glimpses of wanting to do it right, but something always happens that turns him into half-assed man again.

I would get behind the new band if for no other reason than to hear Axl sing the classics if he'd just do it right.  Not MY right; right as in giving 100% in the shows, being ready for the tours when they start, mixing things up a bit more on the setlists, making an effort to do something (anything) with the CD sessions music, releasing pro-shot DVDs of the new band to sell how good they are as GnR to the public, writing and recording with the new guys in an effort to move forward, etc.  I don't want all of that for me, but I'd respect him a LOT more if he did it.
