Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
buzz Vs Ali is turning into a far more entertaining show then they're gonna get in Cleveland tomorrow!
Sorry, the show with Myles tomorrow will have to suffice for a while. Should be interesting to read the reports from that.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
Agreed. I'm just confused. Maybe he was just waiting to announce his plans, but upon first read, I thought he was saying he was waiting to decide, which conflicts with what Matt/Slash said.
Ali
I understand what you mean here Ali but in this instance I suspect the discrepancy you're seeing comes down to the difference between a celebrity revealing a tentative plan to a friend, and him making a public statement that will be official.
I think saying to Slash that he's "not planning" on going means he'd pretty much decided not to go for whatever reason (i'd guess the drama), but was leaving open a little door for himself to change his mind about it.
Obviously it's guess work to know his true intentions, but that's how it reads to me from his statement, that he was in fact "waiting to decide" in terms of a final decision that would be public, but the statement to Slash was indicative of his general inclination to attend at the time he chatted to slash.
I suspect in part the decision is also influenced by what else went on. No doubt when he talked to slash he heard from Slash that Slash hasn't spoken to Axl in 15 years or whatever it is STILL - and then he reads Adler calling people Hacks in the press, then he sees Axl's statement...and if I were him I'd be thinking "Nothing has changed since I walked away from this last time". Can't help but think his decision not to go would be a little different in a fantasy world where Axl n Slash were friends again (even if not in the same band) but having dinners and talking about old times, like if Slash and Myles jammed with Axl and DJ on a cover at an award show or something....I think in a happy world like that...Izzy might come around.
On another note:
At this point the only person I think to get a pass to no-show this event is Dizzy.
I can see Axl not wanting to perform with the old band when he's working with his new line up - but I think it's sad for him to reject the induction (lets face it he SHOULD be in there as one of the greats of all time) - so i'd have liked him to at least come and not play.
If Izzy doesn't come it's just bullshit. He's had the luxury of a life of fame and never having to have a job from his GNR days - all we want to do is honour him for it - wouldn't kill him to make an appearance. Ok I'm a little bitter about it. Just his whole unreliable nomad persona - it's cute in a way but it's also just damn rude to his fans.
Obviously I expect Slash/Duff/Matt to be there.
So to me Dizzy is the only one with a legit reason not to go. And that is - he's a current member of the modern guns line up - and if the leader of that band and his employer Axl - is making a public stance against the event - then you can see it puts him in a massive conflict of interest to go and party with the Hall guys and the old band anyway. Also - much as I enjoy Dizzy - because he was a post AFD addition to the band - his absence to fans is no where near as offensive as not having Izzy or Axl around.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
It's curious to hear that Myles is going.
I wonder what this means.
Slash performing a track from his new album? Random all-star jams with the other inductees? or Steven/Duff/Slash/Myles doing GNR?
I've wondered for a while how the others will respond to Axl this time.
Traditionally, aside from steven, they're always diplomatic to protect the chance of a future reunion, but as they get older, and surer in their new endeavours, and as it becomes clearer that Axl will never forgive..it'd be tempting if you are them to just go "fuck it" and do what they want.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
^ I agree. If Izzy doesn't go it's a major snub to fans in my opinion.
In one way it's slightly more tolerable, as in a way as I said at the start - as rhythm guitarist - he's not as fundamental to a good show as the lead guitarist or singer is.
However, on an ethical basis it's actually far worse. I mean at least Axl has some reason to no show it. If he goes he'd have to:
1. Deal with his enemy slash
2. Face up to public condemnation of his new band or at minimum public preference for the old band and the inate harm that does to his current endeavours.
3. He's had a disagreement with the Hall.
but WTF is izzy's reason for not going? He's just too cool? He can't stand that Axl and Slash don't get on? He's got somewhere better to be than being acknowledged as one of the greatest musicians of all time?
Suck it up Izzy and go to the show.

How a GN'R fab 5 reunion/farewell show should go down: Live at "The Ritz."
Have a club show like they just did. Don't blow your load on the HOF bullshit.
Realistically I think you'd have to castrate Axl before he'd work with Slash and even then....but yeah in some ways I've always thought a hall performance makes no sense - when they could play for $150m on a tour.
Then again....I guess it's been shown it's not about money, and I kinda hoped that where money wasn't the sweetener that the honouring and giving back something to the thousands of fans who beg for it might be...simply for the happiness it would create worldwide....but I guess their minds don't work like that!
I mean realisticly it's going to be 20 mins of awkward for axl and it would make 10,000,000 people in south america happy..he could almost do it for the global harmony at this rate.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
On the plus side:
The VR chemistry seemed off. Could be cos they hate scott. Could be that Duff and Matt are shirty with Slash these days. But it seemed very awkward backstage and matt even commented on it.
Meanwhile, sorry to bash Axl, but I'm not sold on the current condition of his voice. It's personal preference perhaps - I didn't like 02 either - then he came back stronger in 2006 - so I do believe he could come back better yet again - but at the moment - for my tastes so far his 2011 voice is not guaranteed.
So I guess the one good thing of this is it doesn't ruin the legacy. Imagine if we'd prayed for decades, then Axl came out and sang helium high notes, no rasp and quaky sounding midrange, duff didn't look anyone in the eye, steven is all smiles like nothing happened, and slash is in his awkard "I don't want to be here" vibe where he's just standing at the side and not working the audience. It would be the biggest anti-climax of all time.
So in a way even though it sucks - we can leave it as it was - ritz style - where the band is fucked up but can not be touched...or UYI style as a monster stadium act changing people's lives and inciting mania all around them.
Meanwhile we can go see Slash play with Myles on his next tour where he'll be comftorable and shredding better than ever on stage. And hopefully later in the year... Axl will go back to 2010 style form where he's busting out songs that are more personal to him like TWAT, and Scrapped...where he closes that fist and screams and I fucking believe it.
