The letter is insane. Period. Why not just say "I'm not going because of this, this and this. Dizzy will accept my award for me. Please no one speak on my behalf. Thank you."

That is how a normal person would do it.

So, what's Izzy's reason for not going now? Axl won't be there so there is no potential disaster. Why doesn't he just show up with the rest and hang out? Why is he not being held accountable for showing up? Why does he get a hall pass now?

Has Izzy officially said ANYTHING about it since it was announced?

no

This is where I don't have a problem with the letter: I think, and I'm taking Axl in good faith here, is that there were negotiations for whatever it was he wanted, or was concerned about. That could have fell apart very recently. And probably all the stuff that's gone on in the weeks leading to this, which I'm positive he was reading the forums, as he is now, seeing the negativity at not playing (which was THE central issue to a lot of people here who didn't cared if he showed up or not) the comments in the media and with Steven ... Not sure Slash's comments were that bad, only in regards to Dizzy, which, yeah, probably didn't help... And it would have been a complete disaster and he's decided not to get involved.

Bam, I respect that.

But in that letter, imo, he has absolutely open the door to communication, again on his terms, between he and, lets be honest, Slash. No one, nothing else matters to him. He doesn't give a rats ass about Steven, at least outside a human, once were brothers type of deal. Steven means ZERO to the situation Axl was alluding to about clearing stuff up and bringing it out into the light.

And Buzz, he could actually have LEGIT reasons why he feels the way he does about EVERYTHING. But he just doesn't discuss it. He does not elaborate. He's his own worst enemy about this shit. Like I said, during the chats when he talked about taking the GN'R name... That made sense. I understood why he did it. And he cleared the air, which even Duff has said it didn't happen the way the rumors said it did. Why doesn't he do that all the time?

So technically we don't KNOW that he's not going, it's just rumored that he's not going.  I don't think he's going, but who knows.

I support them going up and playing instrumentals (or ISE and whatever else Duff can sing other than GITR) if Izzy doesn't show or want to play.  I posted this to Facebook...I think Slash, Duff, Steven, Matt, and whoever else shows up should just go out and play whatever they want with whoever they want.  It's time to just let the redhead go and do what they want to do.

I don't think I've ever said this, but poor Dizzy.  Maybe he was pumped about this and now he can't even go if he wants to...

You're kinda right... Axl not around and Steven around is not a POTENTIAL disaster, it's an ANNOUNCED disaster.

Izzy has been avoiding drama for so long (think Velvet Revolver) that it only makes sense (as DOES Axl not showing up) for him to be away from that.

I'm speaking as to my interpretation of his position from his letter.  From his position/perspective, it sounds to me as if it is about the HOF and/or the people involved are an issue for him.  If you want to disregard that, well 19

Ali

I have no choice but to disregard it.  Most of what he said had nothing to do with the HoF other than that it happened to be the event where this meeting was supposed to take place, thus it is the platform.  This letter is not about the HoF (outside of their decision not to cower to his demands); this letter is about him and his relationships with his past (and current) bandmates.  There's no other way to interpret it logically.

I disagree completely.  That's not a logical interpretation at all.  We don't even know what exactly was trying to be worked out, but he states that he was trying to work something out amicably, but that wasn't possible.  He felt, for whatever reason, like he was not being respected or that the HOF was not willing to compromise.  He's very clear about that in his letter.

I'm not saying this has nothing to do with the past or current bandmates, just that it DOES have something to do with the hall and how this whole thing was going down.

"Under the circumstances I feel we've been polite, courteous, and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out."

"the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony doesn't appear to be somewhere I'm actually wanted or respected."

I don't understand how it's logical to read that and feel that he isn't stating that he doesn't feel the HOF has been willing to work something out.

Again, that's not denying the issues with the old band are a major factor, just not the ONLY factor as you claim.

maybe this random thought has already been posed among the legion of novel and not so novel esque posts since axl's letter...............

sorta conpiracy theory like but at minimal level and on a low scale:

in regards to izzy

any chance izzy, when he told sash he wasn't attending I wonder if he already knew axl wasn't going to be there and that is atleast a part of his reason. that would mean that axl knew for some time that he wasn't attending before announcing it.

I don't know man, I just don't know.  Clarity (you would think) would benefit everybody.  He may have had very legitimate reasons to be mad 25 years ago...I just can't undertand being this bitter this far down the road.  I had some pretty bad stuff done to me by someone I dated for 4 years when I was younger.  I don't hate her anymore.  I wouldn't go out of my way to hang out with her, but if we created something special (like a child, which THANK GOD didn't happen), I would be able to be there when I needed to be there to celebrate special things like weddings, big birthdays, and HoF inductions.

And I agree he opened the door a crack, but it's the his terms that's a huge problem.  His terms are complete unconditional surrender.  That's not going to happen, nor should it.  They should BOTH be accepting responsibility for their roles in everything that happened.
