Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
Ali wrote:but there is zilch in Slash's statement about that fateful night in 2007 at the Key Club that indicates his decision to not participate was dependent on Axl's presence. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth. Is it possible what you're saying is correct? Yes, it's possible. But, it is in no one way, shape or form supported by Slash's comments.
Ali
It's totally supported in Slash's comments.
He said hat he didn't play at Steve's birthday because it was billed as a GNR reunion and "I can't supoort that because that's not what it was".
If himself, Izzy, Duff and Steve where there, why was it not a GNR reunion, because Axl wasn't a part of it.
You seem to think that's me reading things into the comments, but then when Izzy says he'd love a reunion with the original guys - you are happy to assume that means he'd refuse a reunion at the RRHOF because Matt would also be there? Even though both Matt and Steven have confirmed that they would be happy to share duties with each other in any reunion scenario. That's more of a stretch.
Seems to me Izzy just wants the old guys cos that's who did AFD and not the Axl controlled new era that he played with recently. And those 5 guys would be at RRHOF...fuck even Matt wants steve to play.
I'm sorry, but it is not supported in his comments. He made no mention of Axl's non-presence. He even acknowledged rumors that Axl may appear. You can speculate all you want, but it just isn't in his words at all as to his decision being dependent on Axl's presence. Like I said yesterday, it's completely plausible to think that he had no idea or no means of having an idea of Axl's plans and whereabouts that night given the distance between them. Again, as I mentioned yesterday, your position is correct if Slash knew Axl wasn't going to be there. That is not supported by his explicit statements, as opposed to your interpretation and reading in between the lines of his statements.
You are taking my comments incorrectly. I was merely pointing out that if the preference for the others is a reunion without Steven on drums, as Axl has said theoretically would be necessary, if Izzy is intent on doing it with the AFD lineup, there could be a problem there. I'm not saying he won't perform at the HOF because of that, just that might be an issue. If he was speaking as to a long term reunion tour or is not as hardlined about who the drummer is, then it won't be an issue.
My point in bringing Izzy up is that there has been no confirmation he will even be at the HOF. The question that was asked of him was related to a reunion, but not specific to the HOF as they had not been inducted when that interview was conducted. Simply put, if Izzy is not there for whatever reason, there cannot be a full reunion.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
did he say because axl wasn't there? if not, it's possible slash just didn't want to be a part of something labeled a "gnr reunion".
Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. He made no mention of Axl not being there at all. So, without any knowledge otherwise, there is nothing in Slash's statements to support that he wasn't going to perform that night because Axl wasn't there. Thank you. Someone gets what I'm pointing at.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
War that's possible...but let's face it...Slash was right...it wasn't a GNR reunion...do you think reunited GNR would play an Adler's Appetite sized gig at the Key Club....do you think reunited GNR would have zero input and presence of Axl Rose....Slash didn't want to label something that wasn't GNR as GNR....something they also didn't do in VR.....
Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
For the record...
I'm not on some mission to bash Axl.
To me he's the greatest living songwriter around and the best frontman.
I'm just saying as true as I believe that to be, I also think it's true that out of the original 5 guys - he is the least likely to want a reunion.
I mean damn...if he was posting himself and you asked him if he'd like to play with slash what do you think he'd seriously say?
Slash lives in his ass. He's a cancer. He's uninspired. It's slash that stopped them making a new AFD. Slash ruined the UYI records. There's zero possibility of him having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush and then it wouldn't be pretty. How much do you want?
Like I say, I love Axl's music, but he just DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY with slash EVER again.
Twist and turn it as much as you like and come up with ways to blame izzy or slash or whatever for it....but at the end of the day I've never seem Duff say in an interview he'll die before he reunites, there's no where in print where slash calls Axl a cancer and says there's no chance of ever being with him again....
Axl is great but we need to take the bad with the good, and bottom line is, he is the one that least wants a reunion.
Yes, but that is not the point I was trying to make at least. A reunion is predicated on Axl, but not ONLY on Axl. If one of the other four, for whatever reason, do not want to participate, no reunion is possible. At this point, there is no confirmation of Izzy's presence at the HOF, so if he elects not to show, that would present a roadblock to a reunion irrespective of Axl's position.

Re: RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements)
Ali if you can't see that Slash saying that that gig was not a GNR gig implies that it wouldn't be without Axl present then you really must not respect Axl's input into what makes GNR

i don't think anyone will deny that. i do have to say, that if slash DOES want a reunion ..... he keeps ruining the chance by running his mouth. i don't think axl is as opposed as some think.

Here is the fundamental problem with what you're saying. You are assuming a knowledge on Slash's part of Axl's intentions and/or whereabouts that night. He makes no mention of any such knowledge. He did not once say, "Well, I knew Axl wasn't going to be there". You are assuming he had that knowledge. That assumption, while it may be theoretically correct, is not supported by Slash's comments. I'm sorry, but that is the truth. If you disagree, then please point out to me where in the transcript from the interview I posted he mentions knowing Axl will not be there.

That's true in a mathematical sense for the technical reformation of the classic AFD band.....but in a media frenzy sense...all that matters is Slash and Axl. Plus there's nothing to indicate Duff and Steve don't want to play.
Maybe you're right in some legal sense..but let's face it....are you telling me Axl, Slash, Duff, Steven and Richard/Gilby/You/Me wouldn't be still accepted as a monumental reunion? Come on....
There would be like 1 tag line of "original rhythm player Izzy was a no show at the ceremony as he's become a gypsy, the rhythm parts were handled by stand in monkeychow" - meanwhile the headline and the rest of the copy would be exclusively ranting anout Axl, Slash and how they've patched it up and what it sounded like....
A reunion is possible with any line up that includes Slash and Axl, and better if it includes Duff, and better again if it includes Izzy, and best if it includes all 5.
But it's totally possible with the right 2 or 3.
And we can pretend what we want but it's Axl who under no circumstances would be involved.

He doesn't need to know. He CAME to the venue. When he got there it was himself, Izzy, Duff and Steve in attendance. Then he decided not to get up on stage and left for "personal reasons". When asked why he didn't play - he said word was out that it was a a GNR reunion and he couldn't support that by playing because that's not what it was. And the reason it wasn't is pretty damn obvious...how are we even arguing about this
