Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
Well, Zednik's on the Panthers. But yeah it happened in Buffalo, which is weird. I read on HTGTH that he landed on his teammate's skate... which could have happened. A couple players were going down and Zednik seemed to lose his balance too.

Ashame, I hope he's ok. Yeah, Hockey sometimes has some near lethal injuries. Malarchuk & I remember a few years ago Chris Therien took a slapshot against Ottawa that sailed up & hit the defenseman's adam's apple, basically chrushing it. He couldn't breathe & collapsed down onto the ice immediately. I heard as they were getting him off onto the stretched they had to poke a hole into the bottom of his throat with a pen so he could breath. His throat box was all f'ed up.
EDIT: That one was at Montreal, not Ottawa.

Here's the play and reaction: http://broadband.tsn.ca/tsn/?vid=31128
Pretty scary. I think he saved his own life by applying pressure and skating to the bench right away. It's pretty similar to the Malarchuk thing. It sort of does seem like a Buffalo curse because didn't that happen to Noronen a few years ago in practice also?

^ Yeah Noronen had his throat cut by Drury's skate back in 03-04 I think. During practice so never saw too much about it.

A similar thing happened to Trent McCleary with Montreal a few years ago, it ended his career. went down to block a shot and took it in the throat.
In other, not so great news, Tom Kostopolous and Ryan O'Byrne from Montreal were arrested outside a nightclub in Tampa last night. Allegedly, O'Byrne stole a lady's purse and told police it belonged to his girlfriend, while Kostopolous was arrested for resisting arrest.

Carolina Hurricanes trade Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman to Ottawa for Patrick Eaves and Joe Corvo.
Flyers' Simon Gagne suffered a concussion on Sunday, but it's too early to tell how long he'll be out.

It certainly isn't good. He was out for a while already this year, plays a few games & gets another. He seems concussion prone a la Lindross & his brother. Primeau got to be the same way, but that was later in his career after suffering a few. Gagne will likely need alot of time off again. Maybe most of the regular season.

its a good short term deal for the sens...too bad both are UFA's in the summer
The time for Ottawa is now. They're going to make a serious run again this year... all they need is a quality goalie and they're set for a cup run. Word is they're in the Forsberg running, so if they get him, they have two really excellent scoring lines, the best shut down 3rd line in the league, and a killer defense core. The only question is if Emery or Gerber can carry the team through the playoffs.

Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
Yeah Ottawa is the best team in the East. I hate them but I can't argue that. And their window isn't permanently open, either. I'm pretty interested in the Sabres-Sens game tonight as Buffalo is gaining momentum ( 6-0-2 in last 8) and Connolly is back... and it's the Sens first time out with Commodore and Stillman.
I remember last year their first game with Mike Comrie was against the Sabres, and they killed us.
It's too early to talk playoff match-ups... but Buffalo is knocking on 8th place and this little rush of wins has to continue to get them int he playoffs. A win against a team like Ottawa would be huge.
