Oh, bullshit. You have people all around the world still going to the concerts, singing along to the new music, that's all that matters, imo. Why you guys seem to need the back up of "the world" to try to validate your opinions is beyond me... If that's what you think, stick with it. Dont speak for everyone else.
I doubt the world cares that much (if they ever did) about who is or isn't in GN'R.
You're living in a dream world buddy. People are still going to the shows(not many in North America) and still thinking him keeping the name is lame. Not everyone at those shows is a diehard and trust me most people think it's stupid he is using the anme Guns N' Roses without Slash. That is without question a fact of life dude. Walk the streets and ask 1000 peoepl what they thik I can GUARANTEE you what the results will be. A HUGE majority for people who think it's dumb Axl uses the name Guns N' Roses with this band.
And it's not using "the world" to validate our opinion it's simply usuing "the world" to discredit your nonsense opinion that it's only a handfull of forum nerds who think he should've dropped the name.
The fact you can't recognize this proves how much of an online Gn'R bubble you are in.

Believe it or not, years ago I didn't have a big issue with the name thing either. I looked at it like my favorite TV show. A recasting, reinvention for Season 4 or some shit. As long as the songs were good, that would be awesome.
As time as worn out and Axl has done nothing musically (even CD was a forced leaks album; "he was about to release the album" -- yeah right, it was supposed to come out in 2001), the more and more i've seen new Guns N' Roses as, "The Simpsons after Season 9", or "The X-Files after Fight The Future", or "Stargate: SG-1 after the move to Sci-Fi Channel".
Good, but a shadow of it's former self.
And ID is nuts if he thinks people don't slag on Axl for the name outside these boards. You bring up Guns N' Roses in reference to ANYTHING post-1993, and you're laughed at hysterically and made fun of almost anywhere (at least in my experience). I listened to DJ after DJ after DJ on the radio basically used the "Chinese Democracy" debut single as a platform to tell the world how much they think the song sucks and how much they think Axl and fake GN'R are a sham, and WHY they WON'T play the song.
Yeah, i'm not exaggerating.
Axl is not seen as a living joke. What is perceived that HE DID, is a living joke. And at this point, perception is reality, and reality has been written as history.
Do I care?
I couldn't give a flying fuck -- IF! -- he released new music. He could release new music on a small label like Frontiers Records with Baz and Whitesnake or whoever the fuck, and I wouldn't care... but the lack of material just makes him seem like a dying hack, and the BAND NAME is the BIGGEST CULPRIT of it.
Drop the name if future material is OFF the table. It's the RIGHT thing to do. Be a man of honor. It's not YOUR band. Not unless you convice the world that the current band IS Guns N' Roses, and have just as much of a right to that title, as the legends who created it.

the name should have just died after slash and duff left ...not transferred to anyone....just ceased to exist

Bono, there's a whole other world outside North America (talk about living in a bubble), and they have a big fanbase of people who still see it as GN'R. If you don't, fine. Not everyone thinks like Bono.
If the majority of the people feel that strongly, too bad. I wouldn't care.
It's his band. Get over it.
btw, there was a poll on MTV once where thousands of people voted if he should drop the name, and people voted for Axl to keep the GN'R name.

I thought this kind of discussion would of ended back in 06. In my personal opinion this current version of the band has redeemed the GNR name from obscurity and giving the stuff that fans want to hear. This is just my personal opinion. I've seen solo bands before and these guys play like a rock n' roll band even though everything won't be the same as the classic or UYI lineup. That's life. Axl said that if he did go solo and not use the name, it would be completely different from this and he probably wouldn't do some of these songs if it wasn't for some of the band members encouraging him. (I still love that joke he did that if he didn't continue performing, he would make a Guns N' Roses themed restaurant) Even though that plan would suck; it would look pretty bad ass in a dream of munching on a burger listening to It's so Easy playing on the GNR jukebox. lol xD Of course I'm like all of you that want new music or something else to happen to fill the void; but I would like this version of the band to carry on. A reunion right now just would seem desperate. I think Axl is singing great and kicking ass for his age. 50 years...! Most singers can't pull that shit off anymore at that age. I would like for all the drama between the different alumni camps to end and for world peace to be throughout the world; but that's just not an option for the time being. I'm sure one of these days Tommy, DJ, or Ron will finally tell him it's time to make a album and release some of the cuts. xD I'm hoping to catch a show when they come back to do arenas. The problem is putting the blame on Axl and everybody involved isn't going to make anything happen sooner. If you don't want to see the shows with the new band, then don't. There are plenty of other options to fill your appetite for destruction. I might catch a Slash show if Guns isn't in town on a day where I need to go somewhere with friends and rock out.

The current incarnation of the band is a joke.
The whole notion this is a functioning band is a joke.
Why oh why?
Well if you can't keep any of your lead guitarists from the time you were making your big comeback album, something is up.
It is a cover band playing covers and covering another band.
Wow they toured a bit?
So what?
Buckethead not in the band hurt a lot and say what you will about Robin but that was the last straw for me.
Those two brought a more artsy creativity to the band than a guy like DJ Ashba could ever bring.

I dunno for me I just make the best of both worlds you know.
I think Slash said once that he used to be upset about the name issue, but now he's realised it makes no difference to their legacy whatever happens because the legacy is so strong now.
And I feel the same.
In the minds of fans there's the old band, and then there's the new band - and I enjoy both and I dont really care what it's called anymore.
Classic GNR was my all time favourite act, but then days in 2012, I'm happy with the various solo shit, I'm really looking forward to the new slash album...and the thing is...name debate aside, mentally I just think of the CD era as a different entity to the old band anyway, but it's something I enjoy, i think CD has some great tunes, and I'm keen as fuck to hear a follow up...
so like on one hand I understand and mentally agree when people say "it's not guns and roses or whatever" - cos sure thats Slash and Duff and that's 1987 at the wiskey man....but whatever this is it's pretty cool and fun - just like slash solo shows are pretty cool and fun and so like....I dunno i'm just at peace with it man.
