Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
Wow. I personally think HBK and Bret Hart deserve in this coversation big time. Bret was aheel before he was a face and when he was the face he was the spitomy of one then when he turned on the USA that was briliant. The way HBK turned heel when he broke up the Rockers was awesome. Also his feuds with Austin, and earlier fueds with Taker were wicked and he played the heel to a tee and yet has always been a face somehow. I mean HBK's lead up to his match with Hogan was so brilliant because he was the clear heel and everyone still loved him. Hogan trying to be the face in that just did not work. Hogan had been passed by in his ability to influence the crowd to his desire when the fans in Toronto booed him and started chanting during their staredown. ROCKY! ROCKY! ROCKY!
I have to admit though in terms of charcater Hogan was a groud breaker no doubt about it.
Honestly though I think Austin and HBK are the only two guys to have pretty much entire careers as heels yet treated by the fans as faces. Other than when it was Austin vs HBK/DX, HBK was the clear heel in that.
Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
one more quick wrestling thing:
The way HBK and Bret Hart were both heels and faces simultaneoulsy during the lead up to the screw job in Montreal was incredible. It was amazing to see each guy get booed outta the building or treated like the second coming depending on what country they were in at the time. Outside of the US Bret was the man yet State side he was scum. HBK was god like in the USA but anywere else he was a douchebag.
I mean I'm a HUGE HBK fan even that storyline had me unsure of how I should be cheering for. Classic. I don't think an alternating heel/face storyline between venues has ever happend before or since.
Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
I agree whole heartedly and I honestly believe he could come out of retirement today and blow the doors off anyone on the current roster in terms of puting on a show. If he came out of retiremnet for Wrestlemania it wouldn't matter who he wrestled the match would be a contender for match of the year. And with this whole new agle with him, Taker and Triple H HBK is the most intrigueing element of the storyline. Hell as the special guest referee he'll still probably deliver the best performance of the night.
Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
I've always said HBK was the greatest. And if it weren't for the religion thing, he would have had another HUGE run when he came back. It was kind of like he was neutered.
Bret Hart was right there with him. But I have to admit, some of the shit Hogan did in the ring during his Hollywood Hogan era was hilarious. He knew how to be a heel.
BUT.... My favorite will always be THE MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE. Both HBK and Bret Hart give him huge respect and props for starting the new era of wrestling: Smaller guys who used moves off the turnbuckle and had fast-paced matches. They both site him as being hugely influential to them both.
Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
There's a reason they call him, "The Showstoppa"
And I agree on the religion thing, it neutered him. Part of the myth that was HBK back in the mid 90's, was his drug-fueled rock star persona. But no one can continue that forever. I'd much rather have "born again" HBK, than "near death" Scott Hall-version HBK, that was non-existant and so incredibly unreliable in the late 90's/early 2000's, during his dark period. If HBK had continued that, he would've died during that period and would've never even returned.
But unfortunately it did kind of neuter the DX return in 2006. Having HBK bow out of certain segments, because of the Christian thing.
But at the same time you gotta give him tons of credit for staying true to his beliefs. He's the leader of youth groups, and takes young Christian kids out camping and stuff and is witnessing Jesus to these kids, but he's gonna turn around and show his ass on live TV chop his crotch routinely? It'd make him look like a fool and a hypocrite on both sides of fence.
He stuck with it, despite his sketchy past, and i'm sure McMahon's chagrin about getting "Disney-version HBK".

And I think Hogan is an overrated, all push, headcase that is still duckin' the Texas Rattlesnake.
Hogan greatest face and heel of all time
no body can take that away.
Bull.. shit
Even when he was Hollywood and nWo, he was still a total face. Mainly 'cause he wouldn't take bumps from anyone "lower caliber" than him.
Austin was the best face/heel ever. Had the skyrocketed popularity of Hogan, but basically a heel who was a full-time face, because of how good he was selling himself as an outlaw/renegade wrestler.
The Rock was another one that was better than Hogan at it. Total scum suckin' dog heel that got bigger pops than some of the faces he was wrestling.
WCW played up the nWo like a face faction after the popularity skyrocketed. It was never ever DX, it was never used in a proper heel fashion.
Like I said, Hogan was all push. Austin busted his ass in that ring and proved himself in the ring, not just with a mic.
Hogan did both for a lot longer.
Love Rock, Love Austin but they had much shorter windows of doing it
Hogan biggest face of the 80's.... then when he turned with NWO.. that was a WOW moment and he wasn't a face. he was hated for doing that.
Rock vs Hogan at WM, who got the bigger pop? it was nuts.
Re: Bumblefoot and Hulk Hogan
Rock/Hogan should've never ever ever happened at WM.
Everybody knows that WWE creative were fucking things up majorly at the time, and had Austin working with Scott Hall which was a total fucking joke of a card, no offense to Hall.
It was originally conceived by Hogan, Austin, and McMahon that it would be Hogan/Austin headlining WM and it would be the BIGGEST WM main event ever. The two most popular superstars in the industry's history colliding.
The problem?
Hogan refused to put over Austin. McMahon wanted 'heel' "Hollywood" Hogan to face 'returned face' Austin, with Austin winning, as a "torch passing" moment between the eras.
Hogan refused, as some sort of "not wanting to acknowledge Austin's superiority of him". Austin then refused to job to Hogan, after a promise he made to Bret Hart years ago behind the scenes to never ever allow himself to lose to Hogan out of principle.
Thus when Austin inducted Bret Hart into the WWE Hall of Fame, he made that comment intentionally of "I found a can of whoop ass backstage that had Hulk Hogan's name on it". The audience roared, and Austin told Bret he was gonna do it just minutes before to get to Hogan... and it worked. Hogan was obviously pissed, and felt dissed as a legend at the big moment.
And why did Bret feel that way? Because years ago when Bret first came on the scene, Bret tried to be friendly with Hogan and congratulate him on his title win at the time and show respect to Hogan, and Hogan allegedly snubbed him.
In Hogan's defense tho, the era that Hogan came up in wrestlers were taught to NEVER be friendly behind the scenes or publicly with guys they were feuding with or competition to add to the mystique back in the 70's when pro wrestling was pushed as "Real fighting". Hogan was taught during that era. I think that might've had something to do with it.
But Bret carried that from that moment. And Austin wasn't crazy about Hogan because he had mutual friends (including Kevin Nash & Undertaker) who eventually had a falling out with Hogan, and Austin got all these stories n' shit about how Hogan was a piece of crap, and selfish, and wouldn't take bumps.
