I still think that whether there's chemistry between them or not, the old GN'R tunes are so fucking great, that hearing them get played by the ORIGINAL lineup, there's no way that will come out bad.

As much as I like the new band, the guitarists just can't replicate Slash's tone and feel on the old songs. I'd love to be able to hear/see that one more time, surely everyone else here would too!

Axl would come off looking bad by performing with original dudes.

Steven is the only guy Axl looks good compared to these days and his voice isn't the same and Slash,Duff play better.... So Axl would get shit on in the press anyway.

Slash plays better than he did 25 years ago.

Slash, Matt and Duff have a shit load of chemistry together, sure the VR reunion gig with scott was a little awkward, but watch VR boots RAR in 2007 and you see what they're capable of together in a modern setting.

It could kick a lot of ass if the politics wasn't too awkward, and assuming Axl's voice was in workable form that night.

Even if you use that rationale, then you admit that Axl can't win, whatever he chooses to do. If, by your scenario, he chooses to perform but gets slammed by the press for looking/sounding bad. If he chooses not to perform, he gets slammed for just that.

A tweet that was posted on the "official" Twitter account of Paul Shaffer, the longtime David Letterman musical director and sidekick, regarding GUNS N' ROSES' appearance at next month's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony did not come from Shaffer himself, according to a spokesperson for the company in control of the account.
Michael Lichtstein, the Vice President of Programming at Envision Radio Networks, which for the past five years has been producing "Paul Shaffer's Day In Rock", a daily 60-second vignette illustrating the history of rock according to Shaffer, has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"I am writing to set the record straight on a story Blabbermouth printed earlier this evening [Thursday, March 8]. The story quoted Paul Shaffer's Twitter account as saying GUNS N' ROSES would not be performing at this year's induction ceremony. Please know this tweet did not come from Mr. Shaffer, as his Twitter account is in conjunction with his syndicated radio feature with our network, and all tweets are handled by one of our staff members. No one is exactly sure what will happen at the induction ceremony, and we apologize for the inadvertent tweet."
Shaffer has served as musical director and producer for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony since its inception in 1986.
The tweet in question, which has since been deleted (see copy below), was a response to a query about the length of this year's ceremony. "GUNS N' ROSES will not be performing, so [the ceremony will] not [be] as long as you would think," the tweet read

If it's confirmed that they won't play, the whole mystery and excitement of "will they or won't they?" disappears.

But if you think about it, Axl has previously said that death would come before reunion and that he would only be associated with Slash by an ambush and then it wouldn't be pretty. Not sure what about that leads any of us to speculate that there's even a chance of them playing.
