Re: Man Claims He Tried To Download SLASH Album And Got Child Porn Instead
Now THIS is quite bizarre...
Funny how they mention nothing of the illegality of him trying to download an album of music either.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, a British man has been banned from being alone with his eight-year-old daughter for up to a year after he accidentally downloaded images of child pornography while attempting to download an album from former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash. Nigel Robinson admitted that he was trying to obtain music by Slash from an illegal file-sharing site, but that when he opened the files, he found not songs but images of young girls.
Robinson said he informed police about the photos at the urging of his wife, telling the Daily Mail, "When I saw these images I wanted to do something about it. I didn't want anyone else's children to be exploited in this way." He added, "I can categorically state 1,000 percent there will be nothing inappropriate on my computer other than the files I told the police about."
The local social services council recommended that Robinson not be allowed to be alone with his daughter or any other children during the length of the police investigation.
But the investigation could take up to a year before Robinson's laptop is returned. He said, "I can understand there needs to be caution. It is a very serious matter, but to be told it may be a year before the conclusion is just madness. I cannot take my daughter to the park, swimming or anything . . . I wish I had just binned the laptop and then none of this would have happened."

Just the albums and movies you've torrented, mate.
Too bad, tho.
If the guy is telling the truth, his case goes on to prove no good deed goes unpunished. Way to encourage other people to do the right thing in a similar situation.

Re: Man Claims He Tried To Download SLASH Album And Got Child Porn Instead
I listened to this on local radio lastnight - didn't think it would make the interwebbyz. It is overkill though by the cops - I mean, how many pedo's go to a cop shop with their laptop and hand themselves in.
Re: Man Claims He Tried To Download SLASH Album And Got Child Porn Instead
^^ You never know, the guy could be telling a version of the story. Let's say his wife was on the laptop, discovered the child porn on there, and freaked out asking him about it. Then he comes up with some reactive alibi "Oh yeah, I was searching for a new album to download, and I ended up with porn. I meant to delete it." Then when she continued, he thought well, I'll just goto the police & tell my story.
But, on the other hand, maybe he was completely telling the truth, downloading stuff, in comes child porn. "Holy shit, honey, I just f'ed up. I tried downloading an album and child porn came thru". Wife tells him to just fess up & goto the police right away, so he does.
There's two sides to the story, either one could have happened. If it turns out its the only child porn on it, or it's history, then yeah, he should be ok. But if there's several videos or photos, DL'd on various occasions or deleted from his hard drive he's full of shit. Computer forensics can find pretty much anything, so even if he deleted all his old stuff they should be able to find evidence of it. I imagine that takes time, sucks it'll be a year. I'd be curious to revisit this in time, seems a bit fishy.
Re: Man Claims He Tried To Download SLASH Album And Got Child Porn Instead
That has always been a fear of mine. That I'd download a torrent open it up and find that kind of shit.
Best thing to do if you are innocent is to get to the cops immediately not only for your own sake but for the sake of the people being abused.
Just terrible shit!

Re: Man Claims He Tried To Download SLASH Album And Got Child Porn Instead
I think he is telling the truth tbh - well he isn't hiding it from his wife as she is the one saying he went to her asking what to do with what he found. Also it's been 4 months and there is nothing on the horizon to suggest it's over any time soon, so wtf are the cops doing with 1 laptop after 4 months.

Me too. Best to be sure I guess... but if there were files like that there they'd only really need a few hours to find them.
