Re: Motel Hell to get rebooted into a franchise
Originally slated for release on October 31 by MGM, we've learned that the studio has scrapped the "remake" idea and has sold the rights to the Motel Hell franchise to Twisted Pictures, the dudes behind Saw, Dead Silence and the upcoming Repo! The Genetic Opera. It isn't clear what they'll be doing with the film, but we're told they're going to turn it into a brand new original franchise.
In the original, Farmer Vincent kidnaps unsuspecting travellers and is burying them in his garden. Unfortunately for his victims, they are not dead. He feeds his victims to prepare them for his roadside stand. His motto is: It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters. The movie is gory, but is also a parody of slasher movies like Last House on the Left.
Not too enthused about this. I remember the remake rumors last year, but starting a new franchise out of what was basically just a B movie cheesy spoof is a bit ridiculous.

Agreed. This is a terrible idea. I own Motel Hell, I think it's a lot of fun. I don't see why in the hell anyone would want to see a remake of a B movie probably only you and I have seen on at least these boards, let alone turn it into a franchise. Why don't they just start cranking out original properties? Even ripoffs are better than these endless remakes. How else do you think horror (barely) survived the 80s? This is beyond out of hand.
