Re: GN'R returns to the UK
^ I agree re a re-release, particularly given now I have offloaded one of my Red Hand Alternate Artwork CD's.
I think I sold it too cheaply

How many of them were released mate
Re: GN'R returns to the UK
Nobody knows for sure but none were officially released. A very small number of sample ones were made but that's it. My understanding is they were given to the band and a few other people and that's it.
Given I would guess it's how Axl wanted the CD booklet to come out he really should look at a re-release and throw a bonus track or two on it as well plus maybe a live DVD. It would be better than nothing. Give them a bit more momentum to keep on with the touring if that's what they are going to do.
Re: GN'R returns to the UK
Axls touring to save up for his retirement, new music is a pipe dream, noone will quit the band cause they know this is the best gig they'll ever have and they will only have it a few more years so they are just enjoying it for what it is. Just my 2 cents
I'm amazed to get the chance to see them again since its only a couple of years since they were last here, pretty fuckin sweet. If I get to see 7 songs from CD and Estranged I'll be well chuffed, I know there will be no new songs played, but for most of the punters the CD songs will be new.
Bring back Catcher for the UK, thatsa what I say

Thats a tidy profit
Re: GN'R returns to the UK
I'm in 2 minds about the Nottingham show now, if I see that first it will kinda kill the magic for the Glasgow show. I'm thinking it be best to experience Axls long awaited return to Glasgow first, then the next week take a wee trip down to London town for the last show of the tour.
Re: GN'R returns to the UK
Anyway, I feel the ball is out of air. For me. They can still continue to do this, and to tour to good amounts of crowd looking for a nostalgia trip or a drunken rock n roll night. It's fun and all, I mean, it's better than nothing. I'm thankful for Axl being out there, entertaining is and doing his stuff. The world would be very empty without him.
But does anyone else have this feeling? This wasn't really what I was signing up for, or supporting or defending. This GNR (or the 2002 version or what ever) should have been a band standing on their own feet with more material. I guess it was naive to think GNR would evolve into something else, almost Aerosmith-ish with new material. That's what I was hoping for anyway.
I'll be more active once there's talk, REAL talk of new material written, Axl working with DJ making new music. You can tour Chinese Democracy THIS much, and then it's fine. Another tour is the wrong step, at least for me. For the thousands going to shows I am pleased, I would have been there too.
But it wasn't truly what I signed up to support.
I was kinda thinking something similar DCK. I get the feeling this tour is going to go on and on and on again without any new material or progression.
It's fun and all and I would go see them again for sure, but it really is time to take another step forward with some new music. Sadly though once the touring stops I fear Axl could go into hibernation again.
Hope all the recent positives mean that's not the case and this time it's different.
I've always had the feeling there was a reason for touring like this, not because of any grand plan or scheme, but there's a serious financial reason for it. And I still believe future recording depends on this band funding it themselves. This might be the crux of the problem with the label.
But I am hopeful with all the stuff happening recently that something good is on the horizon.
Yeah reading between the lines it definitely sounds like they need to pull in some touring dollars. Particularly after having to tour for nothing as part of the Azoff thing.
That may mean a lot more touring before something else happens. Particularly as you say if Axl is going to fund an album himself.
this is the end
the end of laughter & soft lies
the touring & the opening of new revenue streams (meet n greets, membership fee's for the website) all highlight one thing - the well has dried up.
we are looking, really, at the beginning of the final stages of GnR dissolving from financial turmoil.
yea, they can tour & bring in some canoli's. but everything else is gonna cost them & cost them too much.
the website, with it's shocking attempt at convention is a time bomb. there is no infrastructure or material to satisfy & justify asking your fans to plop down 40clams & when that shit hits the fan(s) & a class-action suit comes down everyone will scatter in the wind.
re: madagas, we not only have an idea we KNOW he needs the cash to keep GnR afloat. to keep paying his hired hands the ridiculous sports-star sums they get monthly.
where we're at now is nothing short of an abomination, disgrace & betrayal. all the excuses axl ever had & used are done & over yet we're in the same place we were before his lies & half-truths obfuscated the real truth - which is he cannot hack it anymore, to make & release great rock music.
it was his fault all along. that's what today's evidence points to. he has done nothing to redress the balance, despite having the power to do so.
& now the juggernaut is finally running out of steam.
but hey, this is a thread to celebrate them touring the UK...

ewww. please no.
Re: GN'R returns to the UK
^^ every band needs money to stay afloat.
NOBODY knows why he's doing these things, the only thing we can do is guess. Releasing new music would help bring in new revenue. He has new music and none of us can pretend to know why he does what he does, like we had NO IDEA why he didn't release CD back when the lable was throwing money at him.
I think you'll have better luck and a more enjoyable time counting down to the Myan doomsday clock. Don't forget your tinfoil hat
