Re: 20 Seconds of the new Slash Song "You're A Lie" from Apocalyptic Lov
Decent.I really like when the riff kicks in at the begining and again after the solo and I do like the guitar solo. The chorus is ok and the rest of it is ok. It's modern rock radio with a tiny bit of Edge. I like it better than By the Sword which I think was the lead single off the last album.

meh
If it wasn't slash no one here would defend this garbage
If it wasn't Slash, noone would call it garbage on any GN'R board.
Not the best song ever, far from even a memorable one - but still far from the garbage cathegory. 6/10 If this is the best track on the album, then it'll suck. If it's the worst - then it'll be a very good album, at least. We'll see it in a few months - except those who have already made up their mind.

I've made up my mind on this track it sounds generic. You wouldn't even know it was a slash song it sounds like a Shinedown b-side.

You are terribly wrong. I can always tell if it's Slash playing. Every GN'R should BTW. His playing is so unique like nobody else's.

Slash, ‘You’re a Lie’ – Song Review

The first taste of Slash‘s new album, ‘Apocalyptic Love,’ due out May 22, is upon us in the form of the lead single ‘You’re a Lie.’ The tune is a rowdy, bluesy rocker, anchored by Slash’s signature riffing and style.
You know it’s Slash the minute his fingers hit the strings. But it’s not Slash trying to recapture his Guns N’ Roses glory or repaving familiar territory. He’s authored a distinct style that’s uniquely Slash on his solo work.
The song has lots of building tension, which starts in the verses and then explodes like a powder keg in the choruses. Vocalist Myles Kennedy also adds another layer of bluesy firepower to the song. He and Slash are quite a tandem, and their singer/lead guitarist chemistry is palpable and their talents are totally complimentary. Kennedy’s vocal style, which is dramatic, blues-influenced and high, is the perfect fit for Slash — just like that guy Axl Rose‘s was. It’s a testament to Slash’s universal tone. A variety of voices pair perfectly with his playing and that’s no small feat. It’s totally evident on ‘You’re a Lie,’ too.
The song is a kiss off to the other half of a fractured relationship or someone who has wronged you, with singalong-worthy phrases like, “All my faith has been wasted, wasted” and “I don’t need you to save me anymore.” It’s all about telling that person not to let the door hit ‘em in the rump.
There’s lots of deep grooves on ‘You’re a Lie,’ too. If you’re not tapping your toes throughout and hitting the “repeat” button to listen multiple times, then you have no soul!

Slash, ‘You’re a Lie’ – Song Review

Slash has settled on a lead singer to front the songs from his upcoming ‘Apocalyptic Love‘ album, and the chemistry with Myles Kennedy is unmistakable on ‘You’re a Lie,’ the album’s first single.
The necessarily loud and tightly produced recording is amongst his best post-GNR works.
The biggest challenge for a guitarist releasing a solo project is finding a balance with the vocalist that features the man who’s name is stamped on the album jacket without castrating his singer. ‘You’re a Lie’ begins with almost 40 seconds of Slash in the driver’s seat a la Ryan Gossling in ‘Drive,’ but when it’s time he lets Kennedy shine.
“You’re a voice of reason that I can’t escape / Cut me down a thousand times a day / I don’t need you anymore / I don’t need you anymore,” he sings to open the lyric.
The two — along with the other Conspirators, who’s contributions shouldn’t be overlooked — weave around each other like circus performers. Slash’s technical noodling only compliments Kennedy’s lyrics. It’s a brilliant balance they hold on to for almost four minutes.
“‘Cause you’re a liar, liar / All my faith has been wasted, wasted / ‘Cause you’re a liar, liar / I don’t need you to save me anymore,” Kennedy sings during the chorus.
‘You’re a Lie’ never lets up, moving from chorus to verse to guitar solo without space for a breath or even a pause for emphasis. It’s pedal-to-the-metal rock and roll from start to finish. Perhaps only ‘Black Betty’ by Ram Jam will be the cause of more speeding tickets.
