Dude everything about GNR is inconsistent...always...it's the only consistency..roses for love...guns for hatred...the whole band is founded on the spectrum of emotions.

Saw 2 shows back to back here once. First night Axl comes out at 10pm pretty much on time. Next night comes out at 11.45. Wouldn't surprise me if the band played TWAT next gig, and also wouldn't surprise me if they never ever ever played it again.

Some nights you can hit Axl with a bottle and he'd ignore it, the next night he'll end the show.

Consistency isn't the strong point.

My guess is someone in the organisation feels (rightly or wrongly) that excessive Slash paraphernalia at gigs will upset Axl and so they act accordingly to avoid the risk of it happening.

So they enforce that policy unevenly and risk upsetting Axl at some shows, instead of all shows? Yeah, Axl's erratic, but if the policy is being enforced for the reasons you say, I see no advantage to enforcing so inconsistently.

Yeah Monkey I was thinking about the inconcistency of the application of the request.  First I don't think Axl requests it or even knows that it happens (until he reads about it in forums).

I do believe it's someone in the Guns camp (probably one of the Lebeis') that gives the directive.  Maybe it depends on Axl's mood, if he has been upset by things (maybe a new Slash lawsuit or whatver the fuck), they decide that for that night if he's not in a good mental state they will put the word out that there are to be no Slash t-shirts.  They simply don't want to risk something setting him off.

Well that's one possible explanation for why it doesn't alway happen??  Just a thought.

Also Ali remember the guy that went backstage in around 2006 I think it was.  In his review on mygnr he said there was a girl giving anyone with a Slash shirt etc a CD shirt to put over the top before they want backstage. I doubt the security company would be putting their hand in their pocket to buy new shirts for those guys. It's gotta have come from internal GNR somewhere.  I will try and dig up the link to his review where he said it.

Russ did the no Slash shirts thing rear it's head again at HOB?

Yep. I would have never believed it if I hadn't heard it with my own ears.

Russ, I believe you when you say you heard it, but I just don't buy that it's a band policy.  It has never been enforced at any show I've been to and there are plenty of other people who've said they've seen people with top hats walk into shows dressed like that.  I just don't buy that any band policy would occur so inconsistently.

Ali

It is being enforced. A Bar and HTGTH member was asked about the tee shirt under his jacket at Terminal 5.

No one seems to know who is directing the enforcement.

No, it is not being enforced consistently. I saw a guy with a tophat and curly wig walk right through security in LA. A poster at MyGNR confirmed what you said, but also said nothing of the sort occurred at the Ritz.

It may not be enforced consistently, but it is happening.

Here and there, apparently. I just don't get how if it's a band policy, what is gained by enforcing it inconsistently.

I don't know the origin of it. Smells more like management's hand which is probably being ignored by security with more pressing issues.
