Re: Feb. 19th, 2012 - House of Blues, Chicago, IL
HOLY SHIT.
Fucking outstanding day, outstanding show, unbelievable experience.
I picked up ereeper on the way who is cool as fuck. We compared GN'R notes all the way to the venue which seemed like a 2 minute drive because we had so much to talk about. Got to the venue, parked, went for a beer (thanks for reminding me not to drink too much so I could stay in front during the show dude!), went back to HoB and got in line.
ereeper had Gold VIP and I had Silver so we just kinda milled around the general line for the day BS'ing with GN'R fans, all of whom were pretty cool. Around 6, they separating the Gold VIPs and brought them to the front, when the dust settled, I was first in line behind the Gold VIPs so when we finally got in, I got almost right on the rail directly in front of Ron's area.
As someone mentioned, I had 3 chicks directly in front of me so I was cool with that. They all paid for Gold VIP so I wasn't going to try to elbow them out of the way or anything. Electric Sun was better than I thought they'd be but when GN'R came on, it was fucking amazing. I've never even considered trying to get that close for a show and it was just awesome. To be 2ft (literally) away from Axl at times while he's doing what he does is ridiculous.
Only bummer in the whole show was the only asshole security guard in the whole place seemed to be right in front of me. I went to take a picture of the stage when Chinese started and he actually physically grabbed my hand and said "NO CAMERAS" to which I responded "IT'S A CELL PHONE AND IF YOU TOUCH ME AGAIN, I'LL KICK THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF YOU". Then immediately went back to rocking while he sat there upset over the size of his small cock.
Later in the show, as you saw on the stream, Axl gave the same guard shit and I felt completely vindicated haha. There was a cool girl between me and ereeper that had a sign she was trying to show Axl (I still don't know what it actually said) and Mr. Asshole Smallcock kept shoving her, covering up her sign and trying to make her put it away so Axl saw the whole, said something rude (thank god) to the guard and he laid off of us for the rest of the show.
Set list was FUCK. ING. EP. IC.
The band sounded tight as fuck and Axl was in an incredible mood.Sorry this is all random and rambling, but I just woke up after a 5 hour nap and I need more sleep by VH tonight! Hit me up with any questions you guys have and I'll answer whatever I can
you're on a rock-a-thon of all rock-a-thons.

Yep. I would have never believed it if I hadn't heard it with my own ears.
Russ, I believe you when you say you heard it, but I just don't buy that it's a band policy. It has never been enforced at any show I've been to and there are plenty of other people who've said they've seen people with top hats walk into shows dressed like that. I just don't buy that any band policy would occur so inconsistently.

Dude everything about GNR is inconsistent...always...it's the only consistency..roses for love...guns for hatred...the whole band is founded on the spectrum of emotions.
Saw 2 shows back to back here once. First night Axl comes out at 10pm pretty much on time. Next night comes out at 11.45. Wouldn't surprise me if the band played TWAT next gig, and also wouldn't surprise me if they never ever ever played it again.
Some nights you can hit Axl with a bottle and he'd ignore it, the next night he'll end the show.
Consistency isn't the strong point.
My guess is someone in the organisation feels (rightly or wrongly) that excessive Slash paraphernalia at gigs will upset Axl and so they act accordingly to avoid the risk of it happening.
