Re: All Original GUNS Members Will Be At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
No one thinks of GNR and thinks Matt Sorum. No one. Not even many of us here.
Speak for yourself. I don't think of GNR and think of the drummer. I think of Axl, Slash then Duff. If I do think of the GNR drummer, I quite often picture Sorum over Adler, because Sorum was with the band when they were at their biggest and got the most exposure as the GNR drummer than anyone who came before or after him. Sorum should be inducted, plain and simple.

Drummers do WAY more than u guys give them credit for. Sometimes the energy and groove a drummer has, will actually help spark the creativity of the guitarist and he write a killer riff thanks to the beat.
Just listen to SCOM, when the drums come in... that fucking swingy ass groove makes that song.
let's dont forget PC, RQ, his Jungle.Brownstone and Nightrain drumming make u FEEEL those songs.
So true. Also agree on the mechanical drumming hurting CD a lot.
Steven should be inducted for sure. Even his image is part of the original band's myth. The always smiling, lost drummer boy.
I'm not a Matt fan, neither his personality, nor his playing style, but he did a helluva work on some of the UYI tracks. Locomotive, YCBM or Coma just wouldn't be the same without his stuff. So if it's not only the classic five, then Matt is the guy, who comes next.

Just to add fuel to the fire, I saw this posted at htgth:
Slash On Original Members Attending RRHOF: 'I have No Idea What's Going On'
Slash was interviewed yesterday by Mike Jones @ Baltimore's DC 101. Here's some of what he said...
DC 101: Let's talk Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame dude. Congratulations.
Slash: Thank you, thank you. Yeah, it's pretty cool. It was very flattering to get that initial phone call saying that we were nominated...that was like the biggest news right there...and then when we actually got inducted...for the first call cause I didn't know if we were going to get inducted right away. So yeah, I'm pretty stoked.
DC 101: Is there any truth to this - all five of you guys, are you going to be there?
Slash: I know that there's a lot of rumor about it, as always when it comes to GN'R, out there on the internet and stuff. But as it stands right this second, I have no idea what's going on.

Seems like Slash is distancing himself from it almost as much as Axl is.

Yeah, but like...why even say it. It's like "you don't know what's going on? For Christs sake man, just pick up a goddamn phone and make a few phone calls".

Re: All Original GUNS Members Will Be At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
I personally think Adler and Sorum should get in.
I figure the band is being inducted because AFD is one of the classic albums of all time, and the UYI was a landmark era for stadium rock and songs like YCBM and NR made permanent dints on popular culture. They both play on the pivotal records that caused this induction and so they should both get their moment.

misterID wrote:Most people think of celebrity rehab when they think of Steven. If it weren't for that show they wouldn't even think that.
I'm saying they contributed the same thing to the band. No different.
The drummer debate only matters to the hardcore fans.
This
GNR's drummer position has been one of the most unimportant, no one gives a fuck, replaceable positions in the band, even in their heyday.
But fuck Sorum. Not everybody else, fuck Sorum.
What... ever... man.
Yes, fuck Sorum. Steve helped create an amazing groove on songs like Brownstone and Rocket Queen, both of which are in my top 5 GN'R songs. For my musical taste, Sorum's style didn't fit in with the Big 4.
Re: All Original GUNS Members Will Be At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
I thought he fit in well on the epics. But, in the end, I just don't think he is Hall of Fame worthy. Simple as that.
He is getting in, so this is what I want to see....5 songs
1. WTTJ
2. SCOM
3. PC
*ORIGINAL 5 ONLY FOR THE AFD SONGS
4. YCBM
5. November Rain
*last 2 UYI with Matt and Dizzy
THAT WOULD BE SWEET.
Re: All Original GUNS Members Will Be At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
I'd love if Axl made the old band play there was a time as part of some contract for him to take the stage. Oh that would be such slap to the face and slash would likely fluff the solo.
I'm not against SLash or the old band in anyway, love them in fact, but, love stupid GNR drama even more, it's like jersey shore for 50yr old men

And I'm far from a Matt supporter, but it's not even close.
I think the only thing he got credit for having an actual hand in creating was Rocket Queen and that was just backing Slash. I just don't see what was so great about what he contributed.
...except cowbell.
That and the fact he's the fucking drummer on the greatest hard rock album of all time but I see your point that his contribution was worthless. Pretty damn sure had Steven's issus with addictions not gotten in the way that he'd have drummed on the Illusions as well.... then what? his drumming just fit what they wre doing but he never went on to do anything remotely relevant ro special? Fuck me if AFD and LIES aren't remotely relevant or special I don't know what is and people can make up all the excuses they want but the reality is Steven was the fucking drummer on those songs like it or not.
Christ sakes, read what I said. I never said he, or his contributions were worthless, but his contributions were nothing great. And I never said I didn't want him on AFD. Why you alluded to that is beyond me, just another over dramtic over exaggeration again. I'm not even saying he's a bad drummer. His playing fit the band at that time. I'll say it again, Steven's drumming fit AFD. And it's quoting Slash that Matt's drumming elevated the musicanship of the band, made them better, etc. Matt was a succesful drummer before and after GN'R. Steven wasn't. There was nothing special about him as a drummer.
I'm not bashing Steven, my problem is acting like he's Ginger Baker or Stewart Copeland and that Matt is just a heavy handed hack.
There's no way Steven could have done the job Matt did on Estranged and NR. I doubt he could do the job Matt did on You Could Be Mine. They had different styles, and I totally understand perfering Steven over Matt, even if it were just for Steven's playing on AFD or even sentimental reasons, but acting like Matt isn't a good drummer, and that Steven is something he isn't, is beyond ridiculous. He was a typical sunset strip drummer, with a cool groove and music sense, who played with an awesome band. If he hadn't been in GN'R Steven would have never been a famous drummer. That's all I'm saying.
Matt Sorum made his mark in GN'R, imo.
