I'm pretty under whelmed with the title and artwork.

The Slash solo album artwork was cool. But this thing looks like something a 15 year old male just getting into heavy metal may think looks cool. I feel the same way when I look at some of DJ's artwork. It looks aimed at the troubled teen market and I just find it cheesy.

Hopefully the music is good.

And I also agree that None of GN'R have ever really had great album covers. The best one any of them were ever apart of was the original Appetite cover. That one I LOVED. The rest... maybe honorable mention to UYI2, but none of them ever were really all that great.

Slash I was probably the best cover art he was ever apart of, aside from AFD-original.

Seriously? I get the controversial appeal to the original AFD cover but it's cheesey as hell. I'm glad they moved to the inside sleave.  I honestly think the AFD cross cover, LIES and both Illusion covers are absolute classic and all look awesome. Distinct in every way and unique in every way.

AFD - It's simple yet classic. It's clearly 80's rock but doesn't scream 80's hair band cheese. It's just perfect I think. Plus I liek hwo the band memebsr are on the front but not in a  cheesey charicature type way even though it is... ya know?

LIES - I remember older kids walking around with full print LIES shirts at school untill they were banned because of the girl.  I always loved how the cover complimeted the title. A tabloid style cover to an album titled LIES. Perfect.

Use Your Illusions - Flat out the  covers envoke the feeling of the album titles possbily better than any album cover & album title combo ever. Use Your Illusion is a great album title and the covers suggest something epic and loaded with substance.

TSI - meh. Stupid cover, stupid album title.

CD - It's ok but whatever. I always pictured it was gonna be white with red. I was way off

As for Slash's album covers they are always cheesey.

I've just always really liked that original AFD cover. Very original imo.

AFD: traditional version was just a little too plain for me.

Lies is kinda cool, but I don't really take it seriously. Looks more like liner notes artwork. I think the band shot on the inside sleeve from 1986 looks far cooler.

The UYI albums actually have something going for them, but the color scheme was kinda contrasting for me. Thus the reason I chose UYI2 as "my other fave" compared to AFD original. I like the color scheme better. Not anymore shocking that both albums were GNR's my successful.

TSI give me a fucking break, seriously? And I thought the goat on Vs was bad.

CD... I don't get. But I will say, unlike most, I prefer the bicycle cover to the "Axl's artwork" covers. The grenade one is just weird.

But in fairness, I am pretty TOUGH on album covers, because most of them I don't care for. Same with music videos. I prefer the music and think most music videos fucking suck. And they do.

The only album cover I didn't like was TSI.

It's a great album (despite what everyone says) but I felt after the majesty of the UYI albums that the piss-take cover of just the spaghetti along with the comical title was just a bit much. Given it's a celebration of their rock and punk roots it probably would have been a good candidate for some of Slash's artwork.

As for the Chinese Democracy artwork. The bike would be cool if the album didn't then have GNR printed all over it. Would have been good if the only GNR reference was the graffiti on the wall - and you'd have a nice statement about the juxtaposition of cultures or whatever in the photo. I prefer the red hand most though I think - as it's a great metaphor for GNR in general sort of psychologically headfucky but downright awesome at the same time.

As for this album though. I prefer it to the cover of snakepit 2. Won't comment on the title until i've heard the songs. Perhaps it will fit, perhaps it wont. I'm glad it has a title though as naming it Slash 2 is sort of stupid to me when post GNR we have "It's 5'Oclock Somewhere", "Ain't Life Grand", "Contraband", "Libertad", and "Slash". Even if you leave VR out of it...I'd say this is closer to Snakepit 4 in my mind.

Hanging to hear it though. If Slash and Myles are both on they could smash this one out of the park!

yeah i agree.....I took it to be about the cultural contrast..and the band's impact...like even in China - opposite end of the world to LA and a place where people drive around push bikes - someone is listening to GNR and rebellious enough to brand it illegally on a wall.....so the bike is relevant that it sets the scene..

I'm mixed on it.

I shook hands with Myles at a gig and up close he was def better than on youtube I'll admit.

But then I think the whole band other than slash lacks that chrisma I was going on about in the other thread.

Up close you look at Slash and you can see the rock royalty in his blood, the man was born to be a rock god and it drips all over him. There's an aura and a charisma to him. Duff also has a sense of it, lessened slightly, and of course Axl has that edgy vibe he always brings.

My feeling of the band from the front was Slash is a true rock god, myles was like 1/2 way there - can't knock the talent and he's def a cool guy you'd hang with in real life, then the rest of the band were just normal people dressed in leather. Sound killer..but don't have that Chemical X.

Hard to explain what I mean.

It's like with Axl and Slash it's putting equals together. With Myles and Slash - well it's putting someone who has the vocal chops and deserves to play with slash - but you can tell he looks up to slash and is slightly in awe of him himself.

Just got a text from my cousin. He's on tour in Australia at the moment, his band Kvelertak is playing a clubshow in Melbourne with Mastodon and Gojira.

As awesome as that is, on Thursday he's gonna interview Slash for an Australian Guitarmagazine! Guess it's part of the promotion for the new album.

Damn I think that gig is tonight in melbourne or I would have gone and checked it out!

The only thing more awesome than being on tour would be meeting Slash for an interview.

I'm guessing he doesn't have any power to hook me up for a stalker based drooling fan pathetic "oh my god it's slash" trembling photo/autograph session..but if he feels like risking his reputation and telling me when to stalk the airport for slash feel free to let me know!!!! wink
