Re: DJ Interview With NWI Times
The news itself isnt surprising. Whats surprising is the fact he was willing to admit theyve done nothing & he hasnt even heard any of the ancient material.
I expect silence or a reunion after this tour. CD II is nowhere near a launch pad.
I'm not sure that quote means he hasn't heard any of the ancient material. Could the "..........hearing some of the ideas and songs that are already done" quote mean ".......having heard some of the...."? It isn't as if Americans are all perfect at word selection. I've heard it said both ways and am sure I've stated it both ways.
Since you mentioned reunion, I have often wondered these last few months if the reluctance to release - or even play - any new material may be because Axl is actually considering a reunion, and holding back music so he'll have something to contribute to a reformation.

Re: DJ Interview With NWI Times
I am going to go out on a limb and give DJ another 8 months in this band. When he realizes that there is no motivation for Axl to produce new music, he will quit pretty fast. He doesn't strike me as a guy who wants to sit in the sun waiting for the boss to show up and pass out the day's assignments.

Re: DJ Interview With NWI Times
Calling for the sky to be falling must be quite a fun hobby.
How many times has it happened in G&R?
Oh let me count the ways........Slash leaves, Duff leaves, Philly, 02 tour cancelled....Rio cancelled....Bucket leaves........06/07 tour cancelled to finish recording....Finck leaves....Brain never returns.......Album release fucked up.......artwork fucked up......Azoff sues Axl......Axl sues Azoff.......half filled US arena tour........no new album in sight......
Come on, I don't have to tell jameslofton the score.

Sad but true.
What a shame. I was really REALLY looking forward to an Axl/DJ album. What a sad shame. It really isn't going to happen.
There is nothing even closely resembling new music. We're just talking DJ. Think about the fact that Ron has been in the band since 2006 and has yet to be in the same room with the band in a studio to talk original music. SIX YEARS

Re: DJ Interview With NWI Times
Thing is, didn't the original line up (Duff, Slash, Izzy & Matt/Steven) jam and write music together, without Axl, and then bring it to him for consideration?
They new lineup are all more than capable as a live cover band, but why wait for Axl to get them all together?
It seems that they're all equally to blame as much as Axl is, or maybe they can't/don't want to write together...

Re: DJ Interview With NWI Times
Axl has obviously out so much distance between him and the band that nobody even knows how to engage him.
He really should just go solo and drop the GNR name...one isolated man and his employee's family is not a band.

Only by the UYI period, and the rest of GN'R hated it then. That's what drove a wedge between them was how distant Axl was from them. Axl always claimed it was his artistic way, but if your bandmates HATE your ways, it's gonna create a bad vibe for the music, and it also shows disrespect for your bandmates.
The other difference to remember is that, this is not a band. We might HOPE that it is (me included), but the reality is this is Axl Rose solo, and he calls ALL the shots on all of that.
It's virtually fucking pointless for DJ, Ron, Richard, Tommy & Dizzy to get together and try to write music for AXL, when not only is HE the star (he is), but he also has all executive decision over music.
That'd be like Lady GaGa's backing band writing her next album, when she probably doesn't even talk to them outside of the tour.
That's pretty much Axl. This is his band, his deal, his music, his vision, his expression, his performance. He's not friends with this guys. They're not buds. They only hear or see him when there's a show, and sometimes that doesn't even happen until seconds before they walk out on stage.
If it were Slash, Izzy & Duff up there it'd be a different story, but expecting Axl's session players to write music for Axl is kinda pointless imo. Tommy claimed years ago that he Robin & Paul and I think Dizzy sat down and wrote as a band at one point under Axl's orders (Axl wasn't ever there), but that was way way back in the days that Axl actually thought this was going to be an actual band rebooted under the GN'R name.
But that ship sailed years ago. By the time the 2006 North American tour rolled around, they were just touring musicians at that point.

Yeah, I'm quite certain DJ isn't saying he hasn't heard any new music Axl has. In fact, he's said the exact opposite in recent interviews. He's saying, HAVING heard the the songs and ideas, I can't wait to work on them.
Obviously, still a glaring sign that the band hasn't worked together on new music. But he HAS heard what's in the vault, and as is often the case, has raved about it.
