Re: Whitney Houston Dead at 48
Michael Jackson was shocking.
Because it came out of left field. Not only was Jacko yesterday's news (even his "This Is It" announcement, at least in the U.S. was met with yawns)
When he died, it was blindsided.
When I got the news Whitney died, the person who told me was freaking and I responded, "seriously? I would've thought this would've happened 10 years ago. I'm stunned it took this long."
When Corey Haim died, everyone's reaction was "Seriously? I thought that dude was already dead."
I would've thought Whitney would've been met with the same reaction.
I think people had a hard time coming to grips with the fact that she became a typical drug addict. I was in denial about it back in the 90's when all the rumors were swirling. "But she's so beautiful! Drug addicts are ugly." Mind you, I was a 10 year old at the time. But anyway, I think there was a disconnect between her appearance and the nasty stuff she was putting into her body.

Very sad stuff, especially considering how things completely fell apart the last 15 years or so.
I'll say this, the Grammy's will probably get a HUGE ratings boost tonight. I had absolutely no intentions of watching before I heard the news last night. But now, I'll be tuning in to see what kind of tribute they give her. I'm sure it'll be touching and well done.

Would love to see someone like Adele sing "I Will Always Love You." Adele has a great voice. Not too many people in the business these days who could do justice to Whitney's version of that song.

And now her daughter has been taken to the hospital. This story might be getting even worse...

Word is Jennifer Hudson will be taking the reigns for the tribute, but I'm sure others will be involved as well. Adele would seem like a logical choice being that she's the biggest star going right now.

I wouldn't read into that too much, I think it's just that she was hysterical hearing her Mom was dead. I could see an 18 year old being out of control upon being told of their mothers death. Especially one fairly sudden & unexpected.
As for the Grammy's, I see it both ways. I can see it immediately becoming over the top when every performer, recipient, and speaker dedicates it to her. After 40 minutes people might just tune out.
