Re: Roseland Ballroom, NYC 02/10/12
how long was the show? about 2 1/2 - 3hrs?
how many of you could do the miles axl does on stage in that time?
Re: Roseland Ballroom, NYC 02/10/12
U know, on Youtube vids he does look out of shape, but in concert he didn't at all.. guess camera really does add 10-20 pounds.
I do think people are very forgiving of his voice just cause we feel fortunate to have him actually doing shit.
No honest fan could sit through an entire show and honestly say he sounds absolutely amazing the entire time. ALOT of 2002 is back we just refuse to see it.
I don't mind cause I am one of those just happy to have him back active. but let's dont kid ourselves and bullshit each other that this is somehow better than 92 or even 06
06 he was in fighting fantastic shape and his voice/look was amazing. your metabolism doesn't slow that much in 4/5 years.
like Axlin said.. just lazy for the most part.

I find it so pathetic that people continueally bitch about Axl's weight. Give m a fucking break. I could see if he was a fat fuck who had completely let himself go but he looks perfectly fine. Guaranteed half the people posting on this site are packing a few extra pounds themselves and how many of you are 50 years old? Seriously Axl is probably in better shape then a lot of people posting here. Honestly give it a rest when it comes to his weight.
It is amusing. And I love how people try to give examples of other people over the age of 50 who look better than Axl. As if there aren't tens of thousands of examples that look worse than Axl. Doesn't prove a thing. People age, some more gracefully than others. Axl is far from the worst of the bunch, and I won't pretend that he looks as good as he did 20 years ago. It's all good, but if that's what people want to worry or complain about, so be it.

Problem is, it has nothing to do with "AGE" u apologist drive me nuts. its eating and sitting on your ass. nothing more nor less. Axl showed in 2006 he can still get in amazing shape when he wants to.
Re: Roseland Ballroom, NYC 02/10/12
I'm not apologizing for anything. I think he looks fine. Could he look better? Sure. He could certainly look much worse as well. It's his life. He admitted in the interview with TMS that he doesn't work out as much as he should. We know this. We see this. If I thought he was endangering himself or in severely poor health, I'd worry about it. He's not though, so I don't see it as an issue.
Another thing is, I had no issues with his look OR his sound when I saw him live in November. And neither did the friends that I went with. They were fearing they'd be seeing the Axl from RIR, but were pleasantly surprised with what they got and thought he looked and sounded great. Again, I don't see the issue. Is he in world class athlete shape? Obviously not, but he's able to put on 3 hour shows on a routine basis at a pretty high level. Not sure what more you could ask for at this point.

I got drunk and watched a bootleg of the LA Forum show the other night, I thought as a whole it was a great performance from everyone, Axl sounded damn good for the most part and any weaker moments didnt seem very notable when you watch the whole show.
But whatever man... truth is we better make the most of it while we can, do you think he's still going to be out there doing this shit at 60? I'd be suprised if he's still carrying on at 55. We've all predicted the end at some point over the years, but I think its fair to say the genuine end of Axl and GNR as a touring act will be over in the next 10 years, mabye sooner.
Catch 'em while you can
Re: Roseland Ballroom, NYC 02/10/12
u realize alot of how he sounds has to do with the mixing right? I'd say its not much better than RIR, just now mixed better so it is camouflaged a bit
Honestly, I didn't have huge issues with how he sounded at RIR. My issues were more with him missing lyrics repeatedly and how he looked as far as appearing depressed and/or upset with himself moreso than out of shape. His overall demeanor has done a 180 since that night, and the lyrical issues are gone as well.

Your argument doesn't add up to me though. Even in 2006, Axl was still 44 years.
That's not young.
Yet he was in far better shape.
So on one hand, you can't say it's age. Then in the same breath, "well he doesn't work out as much as he should".
That dog don't hunt
It's two different theories. Either he doesn't work out enough, or he's too old. I call BS on the 'old' thing. I think it is natural for him to slow down physically (despite his eating habits), but he still should be able to find a way to maintain.
I want to once again restate -- I think his wardrobe is the problem here.
Get rid of that fuckin' godforsaken biker jacket, zipped up all the way. He looks goofy. I'd rather see him in a Red Sox jersey and running pants again.
Notice when Axl wears that long, red velvet jacket during This I Love & November Rain how fucking awesome he looks?
Layer Axl. Layer it baby. You look so much better. Retire your days of short leather jackets. It's done man.
