Re: Letterman Bashing Leno
I always thought it was kinda ridiculous how Dave's been so anti Jay the last few years. I have no doubt Dave would've pulled the same shit had he been in Jay's shoes. And all of it in defence of Conan really and in my honest opinion Jay, Dave, Kimmel, Ferguson and Fallon are all better than Conan.
Either way by far the best show and host in late night is Jimmy Fallon.
Re: Letterman Bashing Leno
Years ago Conan was the man. Smart comedy guy, good writer... but his schtick wore thin after awhile.
I don't remember how long it's been since he was genuinely funny. Maybe 2000... or earlier?
I saw bits and pieces of his TBS show... it's fucking terrible.

And this is why I think Jay Leno gets a bad rap. The fact is Conan sucked in that time slot for that show. His schtick is so old and wore off years ago. It wasnt'a good fit and when NBC came calling Jay thought why not. I honestly think anyone of those guys would've doen what Jay did. It's more Conan's fault than anyone because he simply dropped the ball. Plus he wasnt' willing to work with them when they suggested moving the time slot by 30 minutes. It was all about he "integrity of the show" yet the reality is it was all about the health of Conan's ego so...
Don't get me wrong Jay is no saint in the situation but the flak he took from the other late night hosts was kinda lame when in my opinion they'd have all done the same thing.
Re: Letterman Bashing Leno
Jay came across as sleazy and an asskisser during the whole ordeal.
But I did believe Jay about how Jeff Zucker (president of NBC) basically forced him to retire. Jay came across as fully honest when talking about that.
Zucker ran NBC into the damn dirt. He's been making utterly worthless decisions now for nearly a decade, yet keeps getting promoted.
Zucker believed that Jay's ratings would continue to decline, and Conan was the future, as Conan seemed to draw a younger demo (which networks drool over for ad revenue). So in effect, Zucker basically fired Jay in 2006, years before Conan took over.
Jay then tells Zucker, "it'll never work", but Jay agrees because he doesn't really have a choice.
Fast-forward, pretty much everything Jay foresaw happening... happened.
The irony?
NBC is actually stronger without Conan (other than the $45 million buyout). Jimmy Fallon has been far more successful than Conan in that timeslot compared to Conan's last few years at NBC, because Jimmy brings in a younger demo because of his appeal to 20 & 30 year old's, now Last Call with Carson Daly has had improved ratings with the interview-documentary revamp.
Craig Ferguson's (CBS) ratings actually improved also, because Conan left, so he has more viewers now that jumped from Conan to his show, and are now Craig fans.
I guess sometimes these things all work out for everyone.

I agree Ferguson is the best. Dude is an absolute hoot.
Conan was good until he got the Tonight Show spot, then it went downhill. Was surprised at how weak his TBS show turned out. Once he left New York, he lost the it factor for some reason.
