But at the end of the day, the very companies that are protesting the bill could have avoided this by policing themselves. They refused, for obvious reasons.
Yes, very obviously reasons indeed: it's not their place, nor is it their right to police other people's businesses. That's what the legal system is for. Again, the tools already exists, people are already using them. No need for new legislation.

It absolutely is their responsibility, because they're already doing it: they block child porn sites. Though it's not their place to do so and no one's making them......
I don't think anyone is taking your freedoms away by doing that.

The corporations don't have a business interest in child porn.
They do everything else we've taked about here. It's a complete and total different situation.
Child porn isn't blocked because the community deems it so (there's alot of sick fucks that love it).
Child porn is blocked because it's not a viable commodity.
Everything comes back to "the man". The power brokers and the fat cats making money.
This whole thing is a play by the big wigs to protect their business. They want government regulation now, but I guarantee you as soon as they start making money again they'll be bitching about wanting them out.

When fans could go to multiple stores in the 90s, know the clerks/owner by name, have discussions about music & the clerk actually play a cd you were interested in b4 buying & have a cool experience that made you look forward to coming back to buy more...

Then being reduced to going to walmart is definitely jumping through hoops. One is a pleasant experience, the other being a dreaded one. Maybe record store culture was different here & its why some of you like making cd purchases at walmart.

Monkey, I've told you since the rov days why cd sales dropped since 2000. It started before then but for people to accept that forces them to drop the 'downloaders are evil' stance. so the statistic is conveniently ignored by those who blame downloaders.

Told this eons ago, but i knew a record store owner in the 90s. Killer store. His attitude/demeanor changed & he talked about the labels/distributors no longer filling his orders & when they did, price was higher while they were stocking WM shelves cheap.

tbcfh, the maelstrom re: music & internet imo is a defining feature of our modern era & culture. the world is changing & this particular scenario is merely one example - or even paradigm - where a revolution is taking place.
we must not let it slip through our grasp. a chance of genuine revolution comes along at the very most once per generation.
fundamentally our evolution is at stake.
piracy is not the same as stealing.
sharing is not the same as coveting or greed. information is God.

Free DLers buy music. In 2007-08, I pimped MIA here & gave her singles/albums to a bunch of people here free. Some like madagas, saikin,etc. bought Kala even though they had it free. When she wanted paper planes #1, I promoted it better than her own sites
