Re: Sorum Says Velvet Revolver Are Eyeing Potential New Singer
Yeah if they had a no name guy it would have to be someone pretty fucking bad ass.I'm talking 1988 Axl Rose badass - amazing voice, killer lyrics and melody and a deadly level of charisma. But frankly, there's not too many people like that around, it's like 1 or 2 every generation if that.
As for the VR history...I think the problem is just that the potential outweighs what they actually did so far. I mean Slash and Duff - these are guys that made significant input into GNR, Slash is going to be remembered as one of the all-time guitar geniuses. The foundation is there for it to be one of the best bands ever, but so far it just didn't click. It was always cool, but it always had that - soon they will do something mindblowing vibe that never seemed to happen.
That said, I've been listening to a bit of VR recently, and I think because it's a bit different from Slash's catalogue in general, and obviously GNR, that there's a tendency to underrate it. They do have some pretty good songs. They also have a sort of a chemistry. People who saw VR live might agree with me - there's a tangible feeling in the room when you put slash and duff together - not as GNRish as when you put Axl as well - but there's just a bad ass rock ribe about it.
So i have real mixed views on it. On one had I'm convinced VR has the ingredients to be one of the best bands ever if they had the right front man. Slash and Duff (with Matt too) really kicks ass. At the same time - for some reason in that band Slash wasn't in form. Not like he is now.
For example...how much better is Ghost than the VR demo pleasing...I know which song I was happy got made. Makes me curious...what would the rest of the solo album songs have been like as VR tracks.
Re: Sorum Says Velvet Revolver Are Eyeing Potential New Singer
main problem with VR was... U can't have 3 members of GNR in one group AND NOT do any major GNR songs.
Brownstone and Easy are great songs but not over the top mainstream smashes. So not being able to do the true hits hurt VR...
so if u are going to be essentially GNR minus Axl, u have to have someone who can cover all your great hits.
Myles isn't Axl but at least he can hit the correct pitch.. doesn't always sound the best, but u can still do a good job performing what people want to hear.
Also, Slash has no fucking balls or guts. he just cannot tell someone NO
Libertad was a Scott solo album with Slash,Duff etc as session players. they should've told him to fuck off, we are doing THIS
Contraband is a great album. My favorite of the 21st century, and yes i like it better than CD
but Libertad was giant step back.

With Izzy & Duff sharing lead vocal duties.
No offense...but i would HATE that.
Duff's voice is only useful for punk - which is fun sometimes when you want a punk cover like Attitude...but on every track - no thanks. Izzy writes great songs - and at times his voice adds value when with someone else...but to me a VR fronted by Izzy would be a snoozefest vocally.
The project needs a dedicated singer, not a singer guitarist, and it needs someone with some serious vocal chops. It needs it's axl

Hey here's one of my left field ideas
Bring back scott...and throw out dave and put Myles in his place as Rhythm guitarst/backing singer.
Let myles have his moment in the set - like singing the 2 GNR covers they do....but the rest of the time he adds hihgh piched backing vocals for scott.
It would be awesome. You;d get the best of all worlds. Scott's frontman ship and his poet stuff - but with the ability to add in moments of Myles range..

Yeah but scott would never go for that
Didn't Scott get pissed cause Matt was trying to over sing him during certain VR songs??

Yeah, but all Matt was doing was singing backing harmonies with Scott, which actually sounded good.

Matt sang Patience better than him, no wonder Scott got pissed.
