The problem is VR are flat out looking for something that doesn't exist.

Someone with the writing abilities and musical flexibility of Axl, who also has the right voice to be able to carry off the entire scott back catalogue, who inspires them to be as good as they were in GNR, while bringing a new-modern era vibe to the sound. Someone who's got enough stage presence to match the rock chrisma power that is Slash-Duff together and has enough passion and attitude..but isn't just as a screamer/yeller as slash likes musical singers. Someone who's unknown will be easier to lure and control , but then again, that just increases the need for talent so it doesn't become scott-lite - so someone known is better to replace the STP side of the fan base.

Good luck with that.

Brent Smith and Slash's guitar would probably be the only thing currently in the world that would deserve true 2nd place behind Axl.

The funny thing?

Brent Smith IS the younger version of Axl. He pretty much runs Shinedown like Axl does GN'R. Tons of lineup changes, and Brent pretty much owns the name.

Watched those clips of Gnecco singing with VR. No, he doesn't have what it takes.

They should do a simple test before these small VR singer try-out gigs: can he sing the screamy bit at the end of It's So Easy? If not, then show him the door.

It's not going to be Josh Todd...Slash was jamming with him and the Buckcherry guitarist pre-VR and bailed cos he didn't like Josh's voice (although he says that "Crazy Bitch" was a song they worked on).

I think Josh is like Corey but even less musical. Seems slash likes real melodic singers - like scott and myles...who really sort of "sing"  not just use vocal stuff..

I do like some buckcherry though - but to be honest for me it's like they have about 2 good songs an album. And Josh's voice is cool but it does get very "samey" after a few songs.

It's such a challange to find a singer. Cos most are 1 trick ponies. Or really lock you into a particular style a lot.

Problem is to me they need someone with some power - like Baz, or like the guy from steelheart - but then those are choices that also lock you into a specific sound and style too. Need someone who can do that but then also belt out like a "loving the alien" and sound all musical.

Plus they also need to be good songwriters. Getting all that in one package – and finding someone who has all those qualities and isn't enjoying a stellar solo career (or isn't tied to a band already) is well-nigh impossible.

It's the same problem that Queen have faced for the last couple of decades – so VR has a struggle on its hands.

For my money the most versatile person they've played with is still – yeah, I know, I'll keep banging this drum – Chester Bennington. As Classic Rock said, he combines Axl's vocal oomph with Scott's "skinny-cool" vibe, and is therefore as close as you'll get to someone who'd be acceptable to both GN'R and Scott fans. But I'll allow that I don't know how good he is as a songwriter.
