COREY TAYLOR Slams SCOTT WEILAND: 'He's A Lazy Piece Of S**t' - Nov. 30, 2011
SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor has slammed Scott Weiland as a "lazy piece of shit" following the STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER frontman's decision to record and release "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year", an album of holiday standards.
During the spoken-word segment at Corey's November 28, 2011 "An Evening With Corey Taylor" solo appearance at Radio Radio in Indianapolis, Indiana, the SLIPKNOT vocalist expressed his disdain over the lack of imagination in modern art, particularly a it relates to movie sequels and remakes.
"Tonight's topic, if you haven't figured it out, is sloth," Corey said. "Because these motherfuckers would rather just 'cha-ching' than actually use their fucking brains to give us anything good these fucking days.' He added, "More and more people are only interested in money than fucking doing anything that's good. I'm not saying everyone, but there's a lot of fucking people out there who would rather just take your money and leave you with nothing. I'll give you another example. Does anyone know who Scott Weiland is? Do you know that Scott Weiland has a Christmas album now? [Laughs] Oh, it's bad. It's bad. Let me fucking explain to you how bad it is. There is a video online of him singing, and he's very serious. 'Cause Christmas is serious. His hair is all slicked back and he's in his shitty tuxedo. He goes [imitates Weiland's singing]. So I'm watching this — painfully watching this, because hey, know your enemy — and I'm just like, 'Why?' It's not that he's a bad singer, 'cause he's not. I love STP, I love some of the shit that he did with VELVET REVOLVER. It's not that he's a bad fucking singer. He's a lazy piece of shit, is what he is at this point. 'I'm gonna get up here…' [imitates Weiland singing and makes snoring sound]. It's all these people who would rather cash in on the little fucking notoriety that they have and take your money and give you nothing back. And that, to me, is the real — the real — sloth in this country. Because I don't know about you, [but] I work really hard for my money — I work very fucking hard for my money — and when I actually spend money on something, I expect it not to suck. Is that too much to fucking ask for anymore, man?"
In a recent interview with The Sudbury Star, Weiland stated about his decision to record a Christmas album, "Um, well, why not?" He continued, "Well, you know what, man? People don't know me. They know what someone’s opinion is. And they know my songs. But they really don't know me. Christmas, ever since I was a kid, was a big thing. It still is a big thing."
"My memories of Christmas are very joyful," he added. "It was a special time. I remember we would wake up in the morning, and my father would put on the record player and play old albums. He would usually start out with orchestral versions of classics and chorals. Listening to those songs is something I always remember."
Taylor earlier in the year recorded an album's worth of material with VELVET REVOLVER, which has been more or less on hiatus since its split with Weiland in April 2008.
VELVET guitarist Slash admitted in a recent interview that he was the main reason why Taylor didn't get the frontman job, explaining, "It just didn't seem to fit right to me. And he's great, and I love Corey, but it didn't seem like the answer to the VELVET REVOLVER problem."
Taylor told a Canadian radio station after hearing of Slash's comments, "I guess it just wasn't working for him, which . . . He's Slash and he's entitled to have that, and I'm not gonna argue with him. But it was cool to just be able to get together and jam with those guys and I made some really cool friends."
Re: Corey Taylor bashes Scott Weiland
this is brilliant. more musicians should be picking fights with each other.
remember chris cornell did that shitty scream album & someone spoke out & crapped on him. can't remember who. well everyone, but there was some specific musician as well who dissed him right in his stupid face.
but yea, i don't give a shit one way or another about corey freaking taylor (slipknot were p good actually) but he is completely right to have a go @ weiland & his douchey christmas album. i didn't even know about it til this thread. it's hilarious! he deserves more shit than just corey taylor bitching at him. what a dope.

Wow, there's got to be a back story to this. How big of a coincidence is it that Taylor would freak on Weiland after not getting the VR gig...then a few months later, Weliand is, and totally out of the blue I might add, playing a reunion gig with VR?

Exactly. You need to be a kremlinologist to understand the GN'R (and post-GN'R) world. I wouldn't be surprised if Scott were back in the picture.

Re: Corey Taylor bashes Scott Weiland
I dunno...here's the thing...when scott first put out that album I felt the same - kinda embarrassed for him - cos like isn't he ment to be a big rock star and all.
But then when I read scotts comments I kind of get it. Growing up each year I'd decorate the christmas tree with my parents and sister and we'd blast some of those songs in some cheesy tape version or whatever. If I had a great voice like scott does I'd probably enjoy reminiscing by singing some of that too.
As for VR. We'll I'm on the record as having never thought he was a good choice for VR. As it happens I love some of the work he did with VR (Suckertrain Blues, Let it Roll etc) - and I enjoy some of his STP stuff - so I'm not saying he's not talented - but to me it's just not a great fit with Slash - like mixing a wine scotch with a wine wine into one drink...two good things that don't necessarily bring out the best in each other. I think stylistically he drives VR away from a GNR type sound and that's not what i want to see.
As for corey. He's a loudmouth sometimes but I respect his honesty. I'm not sure he'd be the guy either for my tastes. To me he's kind of 2 dimensional - he has an uber clean radio voice and then he's got that power yell thing going...but musically it feels limited to me. Maybe slash and co would bring out a different angle to him. I like some stone sour though..just think it would also get too modern rock. Although it makes more sense than an unknown dude from a branding perspective.
Not sure what I think about scott's return. I still think it would be a more impressive act with someone different...but I did still like it with scott fronting.
I guess with Slash doing solo shit and getting his big solos out that way - then maybe he'd be content to going back to VR with scott as a hobby and playing a minimal role there.
As i've been saying for a while, I think Slash has trouble getting on with Duff and Matt - he likes them - but it's obviously real hard for them to agree on anything. look at his comments about how easy it's been doing Slash2 with myles - and then look at what he implies about writing with VR sometimes.
Then when you consider that Ghost used to be a VR demo - seems to me that slash has got frustrated - taken his riffs and gone home. It's a shame - as I think VR could have released the Slash album as the first VR product without scott...so like VR's third album would be an album of guest singers after firing scott. I think behind the scenes it's just all got a bit complex for slash!

That was Trent Reznor who then went on to do some terribly shitty stuff with his hack GF.
