I can totally see Axl's point about reunions and about the business people.
His perspective on slash is unfathomable to me though. I'd have no problem with a personal disagreement between them, but it's odd the way he doesn't seem to recognise Slash's unique talents.
In his choice of notes, his touch, his style, he adds more to a song he plays on than 99% of players out there do.
I guess it's something to do with the way he considers the songs were created or whatever...like the way he interprets the creative process...because the songs had a foundation Izzy or whatever...
But i think to the average person who listens to any old GNR track two things are immediately distinctive, Axl's voice and style and Slash's guitar sound and style.
To me trying to minimise the importance of what slash added to those songs is just as silly as trying to say the songs would be amazing without Axl. It's a fundamental component of the sound at that time.
I agree that Axl + Slash + Duff with any rhythm player and any drummer could create a worthwhile reunion line up though (Even though I'm fond of Izzy/Steven/Matt) - but the "holy trinity" of that sound is Slash, Duff and Axl.

This is one aspect of fakeGNR that I've always wondered about. Who exactly is allowing Axl to keep booking the US arena tours with such a huge production? I sat in a 1/2 empty arena back in '02 wondering this and see a bunch of 1/2 empty arenas in '11, yet the production is even bigger these days! It's just one of many odd little unexplained intricacies that keeps me interested in fakeGNR. Reality is nonexistent in GNRland, and that's actually kind of awesome.
It's impossible to know how much cash Axl has. Maybe he made some incredible investments throughout the last two decades and has the coin to make up the difference? You know, letting his ego write checks that his bank account can actually cash? Anyways, that little blurb in the interview stood out to me.
It stood out to me too and I wonderd what he has against doing smaller sized shows. I've always maintained that a packed smaller show is much cooler than a half empty arena even if you are drawing more people to the arena show. It does make ya wonder how they can afford the big production. At the same time his refusual to tone it down suggests it's all about the bottom line to him. More people equals more money, yet the production costs have to offset the small difference in attendance.. It is weird.

Ummm.... isn't Axl quoted somewhere as saying when he first saw Slash he knew he needed to have him in the band? I coudl be wrong but I swear I saw him say that at some point.
the whole thing is kinda hazy...i dont even know if they remember how it went down themselves, there is an interview from like 88 with slash and axl in the same room where axl explains that Slash wouldnt leave them alone and he answered classifieds and auditioned like 3 or 4 times before they took him on

Also I hate this spin about guys being in the band longer than Slash and Duff. Who fucking cares. What' ya got to show for it? One album in 15 years, 2 aborted tours and 2 tour successful tours playing to half full arenas. Big whoop. The band right now is essentially a cover band. Not to take anything away from them but it's true. And honestly who cares about Chris Pitman's bleeps and pops and zooms. It's inconsequential what he does. He could leave and nobody would notice.
Axl is clearly living in another dimenison.
oh, he's crazy as hell, but I do think he likes the group he has together now and seems happy. Being happy counts for something and may lead to actual new music.

seriosuly though in Axl's case i can see a natural progression into that...dude cant catch a break in the media...and it spills out to the masses....peopel eat that shit up man media has wayy too much influence...they are like the jedi mind trick on the weak minded

seems to me that axl is in a bit of a remeniscent mood these days...maybe the rnrhof nomination and subsequent induction really has him remembering the "good old days' even if they werent so good at the end
as to beta et al managing...bah its been that way in every aspect but name for a while hasnt it? admittedly though you would think that veterans of rock n roll touring bands may be more benificial to such a large production...maybe they have some consultnats for that sort of thing? then again maybe not?
in terms of the large production...i think that Axl jsut enjoys having all the bells and whistles and feels it brings his audience a better experience? oin that sense a theatre tour isnt really suited to what axl wants...he also mentions not liking the acoustics in a smaller LA venue as opposed to the Forum
the insinuation about gilby was kind of unexpected....maybe sheds a small sliver of light as to why Tobias was brought in and Gilby let go...and i guess axl thinks matt is a douche too? who knows maybe those 2 wanted a peice of the gnr partnership pie and Axl said FUCKYOU
in regards to the induction ceremony...i have no doubt that ALL of them will be there

The ASCAP isn't really an indication of who structured the song or had a vision or any anything song writting wise imo.
It's whoever played on the version that was released, minus Matt. Not because of Adler playing those songs earlier, but because Matt was a hired musican to them back there. It was a way to to keep more money for others, unless there's a way around it.
Does anyone believe Adler was an important part of the song writting for SCOM, I'm not refering to sound.
