I think it's cool, but I'd love to know what the really obvious problem is.

Well duff left gnr cuz he felt the direction that the band was going in wasnt for him...and he was killing himself so he removed himself from the situation
i think its cool that both have found a niche and are accepting where they are in current music culture...and i also think its cool cuz they will be touring together again albeit for 2 gigs but still cool none the less
does it suck that the orig lineup isnt together? sure...but that ship sailed YEARS ago.... the current gnr is kicking ass right now and you get to see duff open...maybe even play a tune or two with them for those at the gig..
thats pretty cool no matter how you slice it..tell me you wouldnt like to be there smoking just on the off chance that duff will get up there with Axl? that would be sweet as hell

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Duff opening for his old band. Shows a level of maturity from both him and Axl if you ask me.
there are many things wrong with duff opening for gnr, if you ask me. that being said, do i think it`s great though? hell yes!

I don't care if Duff agrees to open, that's his choice.
If he gets up and does a song or two during the GNR set that's his (and Axl's) choice too. That said I will find it a cock tease. I thought that when Izzy was guesting a few years back too.
The person that would find it weirdest would have to be Duff if he got up during the GNR set. BUT he seems ok with it so whatever...

It shows that both Duff and Axl are "using" each other. Axl is using Duff to get more of the "real" GNR at the same venue as him. Duff is using "new GNR" to get worshiped by all the GNR fans and promote HIS band while not even being in GNR, but if he wasn't ever in GNR he would have NEVERRRRRR been asked to open. So its all about money. More money for Axl, more money for Duff. Has nothing to do with being mature or friends, etc. But, for Duff, he should push his BAND outside of the GNR world and let it stand on its own merits, but, he knows his band will never get the reaction like they will get at a GNR show. It just seems cheap and disingenuous to me.
On top of all that, Duff is opening for a band he STILL makes money off today, he will also distract the fan cause after seeing him, they will all want him to jam on with Axl, then before you know, they will want him back in the band with Axl. How is this fair to Tommy and the new band? By rehashing some old shit in a half assed way? Duff, either go back to GNR or GET THE FUCK OUT! Jamming on stage? That is cool. Reuniting? That is cool. Opening a show for Axl so that he can get more folks to the arena to see another "original" GNR member is about as lame as it gets. To top it all off, Loaded isn't even that good, especially when compared to Buckcherry and BLS. I just wish Duff would have waited for Slash before doing this. Its kind of tainting the reunion excitement. A major cock tease for what 95% of the fans in the arena will want.... Axl, Izzy, Slash, Duff and sometimes Adler or Matt back in. I see no positives except for financial ones for Duff and Axl.

The only time I would find it an issue is if Duff doesn't find himself guesting on a few GN'R tracks later on in the show.
If Loaded just opens for Guns, and they keep the whole thing seperate and kinda ignore the GN'R connection, that would be beyond lame.
As long as Seattle fans (like Saikin) guest a Duff "Rose" McKagan appearence out of it in Guns, it'll be a highly memorable performance for fans.
First semi-reunion of sorts since Izzy was doing shows in LA with Guns about five years ago exact.
I'm still hoping Duff & Axl and even Dizzy can use this time to sit down and talk privately about this Spring, how they're gonna approach it, the Slash thing, maybe even some Christmas plans.
THAT will be the cool thing about this if it happens.

Yes that would be a positive, to bridge the gap, but they didn't have to do the cash grab to bridge the gap. Like I said, it cheapens the RRHOF reunion. Cause really, its just gonna be just Slash, cause everyone fucking one else is buddy buddy with Axl again, but who... Who is the one that Axl goes out of his fucking way to slam all the time until recently. To make everyone think he is evil. All that shit.. SLASH.. Yet, Slash's best bud, Duff, seems to have no issue chumming around with Axl like the old days, but with out helping settle things with Ax first. If I am Duff I say, "Look man, I will open for you, but for fuck sakes, you and need to forgive my boy Slash for whatever the fuck you think he did to you. He is like my brother, and he loves your ass, we all need to move on from all that shit 18 fucking years ago and get along. I love you both, but it hurts me to see you with all the anger still towards him after all these years.. I will be on board Axl, but you have got to promise me you will be open minded to Slash, its gone on long enough"... But, I doubt Duff would say that, it would take passion and balls. You know who fucking would and would be scared? Matt fucking Sorum would. he may be a douche, but, he will stick up for a homey when need be.

I tend to agree with Smoking Guns that this is all about money. There's no denying that both parties will benefit from this financially. I do beleive Axl and Duff are fairly cool with each other but like Aussie says it's kinda of a cock tease. I've been saying for years the new band needs to stand on it's own merrit and establish themselves. Having a major component for the original Guns N' Roses does not in any way establish themselves . All it does it make fans wonder how great it would be to see original Guns back together.
Also I don't believe this shows a whole lot of maturity on Axl's part. Duff's yes to a point only that he allows himself to be the opener for Axl when he used to headline with Axl. But as far as Axl goes he's only doing it because the scenario is Duff opens for Him. No way in fucking hell would Axl ever allow himsef to open for any of the original members and he'd never have allowed himself to open for VR.
Granted he can't because he's got the name and the back catelogue but still reverse these roles and Axl doesn't allow this to happen and no "growth" or "maturity" is shown on Axl's part.
While I do think Duff opening for Gn'R is lame I also think it's cool. I mean had Gn'R come back to my area this time around I would not have gotten tickets, however if Loaded was the opening band I thik I might've just based on the possibility of seeing Axl and Duff perform together. I dont' need to see it but if I had the opportunity to see it I'd probably take it.
the big problem in all of this is if the perception is that all the old guys are cool with each other why the hell are they not togeher. The vast majority of people want the original band over this new band and if after this tour Gn'R goes silent they might as well just reunite because having this new band sit around and do nothing is a wate of time and talent.
