Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
People who think Jon isn't a great frontman and isn't "Godly" need to go watch a concert. Few people can hold a crowd in the palm of their hand the way he does.
Just because u aren't a "FAN" u have to be able to keep objectivity and give him his due.
Ill put Wanted Dead Or Alive up against any song from any era. that song is legendary all time great classic, and will remain so a hundred years from now.
People talking bout last great frontman, Prince still blows All these guys off the stage.

No. 1986-1988 is the best he ever was. Hasn't been the same since then IMHO.
First time I saw GN'R was in 88 so I can't comment on prior to that, but I'm telling you, in my opinion, 2011 is the best performances I've ever seen from the man in person.
Russ, I know you love Axl, and he's really in the best shape and mood since the classic band broke up, but hey, he's really older. He doesn't move like he used to do, doesn't run as much as he used to, and his voice got much weaker and thinner with the years. He's still a great frontman, a few can match his performance, but the young Axl would have blown this Axl off the stage.

I gotta agree. I saw the band in 1993 and that is the best I've seen Axl. There was something about him back in the day that suggested "pay attention to me or I'm gonna tear this whole place down" Where as today it's like watching a recluse make a rare appearance. It's more curiosity factor now where people are thinking "oh wow there he is" as compared to being grabbed y the throat and forced to pay attention kinda thing. It's hard to pinpoint what it is. Axl is fucking great right now but the power isn't there the way it was. I can only judge from 2010 though but I have a feeling it isn't all that different than 2011 because the 2010 show was lights out so....
His voice is also thinner these days than back in the day and that's to be expecetd. It happens to all singers but Axl never used echo effects back in the day. he does now so...
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
The only "live" U2 I've even seen since seeing them live in person in 92 was the blu ray I bought a couple months ago which was awful. I could be wrong, but I think our own Bono told me he thought it was awful too (can't remember for sure though).
If you're talking about their ZooTV show in Sydney, Australia I would STRONGLY disgaree with you. That is an epic perfomance from start to finish in my opinion. They don't have any real "aweful" live releases but the Vertigo tour dvd from Chicago wasn't as good as the others and the 360 tour show from the Rose Bowl just doesn't translate onto film. There was no way in hell they were ever gonna do the 360 tour justice by filiming it so....
U2's best live release in my opinion are the ZooTV show from Syndney in 1992 and the Slane Castle dvd from the Elevation tour in 2001

Never been a fan of Prince's music at all BUT his Super Bowl halftime show a few years back was awesome I thought. 2nd best halftime show I've seen. Of course you all know who I think had the best halftime show
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
I meant the Rose Bowl 360 show.
Yeah I agree. It's not that great. It's just too big so close up shots of the band don't help and wide angle shots you can't see the abnd. It's much darker on film than it is in person and there's too much editing to try and captur the feel of seeing that stage set up in person and they just couldn't do it. It comes off real flat in my opinion. The real sad part about that is it was recorded in 2009 and the setlist and show's they performed in 2011 were so much better. They shoudl've waited to record it. The Glastonbury performance(you can find it on youtube) from last June is ten times better than their own 360 Rose Bowl official release.

That's my favorite Axl voice era, too. But I do know someone who saw them live back then and said they were the worst shows she's ever seen. He's always been hit or miss live, but he does seem a lot more consistant nowadays.
I really thought after 1992 his voice was ruined. Some of those live performances really make me cringe with how rough it is in spots. Some of those, well, most of those Jungle performances back then were pretty damn rough, imo.

Yep, once Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and possibly STP get in, it's fuckin' over. When they start inducting bullshit like Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Eminem every year, you might as well change the name of it since it's no longer the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I know there are some rap and pop artists already in there, but look at the last 15 years. It's been completely dominated by those genres while rock is deader than it's ever been.
I guess there is one positive about the future lack of worthy rock artists to be inducted. Like you said, it will force them to go back and let the passover artists in that should already be there. Just off the top of my head...
Deep Purple
KISS
Rush
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Heart
Paul Rodgers
Ronnie James Dio
Motorhead
The Cure
The Replacements
New York Dolls
I'd put The Black Crowes & Jane's Addiction in before any of those bands besides Heart & The Cure(who should already be in!, but aren't better than TBC or JA). I'd also add Blind Melon and The Ghetto Boyz as future inductees. They all rocked hard and left a lasting impression.
