Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
It's a joke if Motorhead isn't there. I'm not a huge fan, but they really define rock 'n' roll in its every aspect.

GN'R embraced it, and say what you want about Vedder vocally and lyrically, but everyone knows this...
Axl Rose was and is the last rock frontman to the roam the earth.
Slash was the last great icon guitarist to roam the earth.
After this, they'll be able to induct the "artsy" grunge movement, and once that 3-year period after GN'R... it's fuckin' done man. They'll have to go backwards to find artists, or they'll have to start inducting people like "Eminem" into the "Rock" Hall of Fame.
Who the fuck are they gonna acknowledge? They're gonna have to go backwards and start giving it to KISS, Rush, Heart, etc. The ones that didn't make it.
You know how embarrassing it'd be for them to induct fucking Creed & Linkin Park in there?
I'd personally fly to Cleveland, just to go in there and piss on their section.
Linkin Park in my opinion is a pretty solid band. The best of the new generation of modern rock acts who still have a lot of potential to create great things. Not even close or fair to lump them in with fucking Creed in my opinion.
Nothing wrong with going backwards either in my opinion. They have to in fact. You can't just induct people for the sake of it otherwise Nickelabck is gonna get in. Oh God is Nickleback gonna get in eventually? I'd venture to guess Radiohead and Oasis will get in at some point and in my opinion rightfully so. Smashing Pumpkins perhaps and The Pixies. But other than that what's come about since the mid/late 90's? Coldplay? I think going backwards is what they have to do so bands like the ones tejastech08
mentioned get in. I'd also throw Bon Jovi in there as well.Axlin wrote:Axl Rose was and is the last rock frontman to the roam the earth.
You'll all disgaree but the world still has Bono. Whether he's a great "rock" frontman or simply a great frontman is up for debate though. He holds his fan base in the palm of his hand the way Axl does and he plays to MUCH LARGER crowds on a regular basis so.... I think I get what you're saying though. I'll admit Bono is a completely different type of frontman than the Axl's, Tyler's, Jager's, Plant's etc etc.
Bono is not the LAST rock frontman though. Axl is.
Bono existed, and was the fuckin' man YEARS before Axl. Remember Live Aid '85? Freddie stole the show from Bono, and Bono was fine with that. To be second to King Mercury is a total compliment to Bono and showed the kinda power he and U2 had YOUNG.
Axl didn't have Wembley in the palm of his hand until '91. Years after, and that's it.
Nobody came after him that held that same power.
And as for Linkin Park... too commercial man. Just too commercial. They were built to capitalize on the nu-metal phase, and Hybrid Theory selling what it sold was complete and total MTV, label, media pushing. In The End was bubblegum pop for it's day.
Do I think Linkin Park sucks? No. Do I think Creed sucks? Actually no. I'm just not THAT much of a fan. I acknowledge their popularity, but I DO NOT acknowledge how they made any sort of lasting impact on music, unlike GN'R & RHCP, which very much did.
The only 'commercial-built' rock band I think from that era that deserves Hall consideration is Bon Jovi. I'll acknowledge their popularity, and lasting impact.
But Jon still isn't Axl. Even Axl today wipes him off a stage. Jon is good, but he lacks that 'godly' thing. That throwback frontman thing. That Axl & Bono have. Scott Stapp & Chad Kroeger don't have it either, for as many albums as they've sold.

Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Love the fact GN'R got in before Bon Jovi. Just will piss off Jon even more. Dude is jealous as hell of Axl even though he really shouldn't be. He's richer and isn't hated by the public. But he doesn't have the street cred as a musician that Axl has. Never did, never will. And because of that he'll always be jealous. This Rock Hall thing just makes it worse, especially since Bon Jovi is the very definition of a famous rock band given their success as a touring act even 25 years after their prime in the studio.

Makes perfect sense I know exactly what you mean. And even then like Neemo tried to explain Bono isn' that "rock frontman" you picture. He's more like.... politician is the wrong word even though he is that in many ways... he has that same abilty to make people love him or hate him but in a much different way. But yes when you think of badass rock n' roll frontman you don't think Bono. But at the same time very few on the planet can genuinely hold a stadium of 85 000 or more in the palm of his hand.

Jon spoke of this one time. Obviously not about not being as good as Axl but he spoke of the new generation of bands even the most popular ones, and how they just don't know how to "perform". He talked about some festival they were playing but weren't asked to headline. They were playing it because it was in New Jersey and it was more geared towards younger people given who was on the lineup. I believe Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy were the co headliners or somthing. Anyways Jon talked about how he actually felt bad for Fall Out Boy(from New jersey I believe) who had to go on after them because they just didn't have the know how when it came to entertaining a crowd that size. After Bon Jovi perfomed people(young people) started heading towards the doors and this was when Fall Out Boy was quite big. He specifically recalled watching fall Out Boy perform to the backs of people's heads.
It said a lot to me in that kids today like shit music that's forced to them but when it comes right down to it they have no desire to see it live because in thier hearts they just do't care, whereas an old classic band can still make people care via their performance even if there is a generation gap.

I completely agree, I've just never taken a shine to any of their tunes is all.
Me neither, I always thought they sucked.

Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Having seen Axl in 02, 06 and now in 11 I can say that he's still got "it" and dare I say, he's some how getting better with age?
No. 1986-1988 is the best he ever was. Hasn't been the same since then IMHO.
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
I've read lots of comments in the past on review websites about Guns's only having 1 good album. Drives me crazy, I like AFD, but apart from Sweet Child O'Mine and Nightrain all my favorite tracks are either UYI or CD.

Sebastian Bach was on with Eddie Trunk a few weeks ago and he told a story about how he had dinner with Jon Bon Jovi AND Axl Rose a few years back. I thought that was interesting. Maybe Jon doesn't hate Axl quite as much these days. Why should he really? Maybe Axl gets more press, but Jon can still fill up arenas and some stadiums with his band. Axl cannot, at least not in the States. So maybe he's come to grips with his jealousy.
