Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame

This is how the R&R HOF is presenting GN'R's official bio. If this is how they're inducted, I think it'll make everyone happy, even Axl. Especialy at the end.

Guns N’ Roses may have began as just another long-haired band trying to make it on the L.A. Sunset Strip club scene, but when they unleashed their debut LP Appetite For Destruction on the world in 1987 they instantly established themselves as one the most dynamic and explosive hard rock bands in history. In many ways, they became the Rolling Stones for a new generation. While their peers produced glossy songs that romanticized the party atmosphere of mid-1980s Los Angeles, frontman Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, drummer Steven Adler, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin and bassist Duff McKagan wrote about the gritty realities of the scene, most memorably on their masterpiece “Welcome To The Jungle.”  The massive single “Sweet Child O’ Mine” showed their gentler side, while “Mr. Brownstone” was a brilliant cautionary tale about the dangers of heroin.  In 1991, inspired by Queen and Elton John, they released the highly ambitious Use Your Illusion albums on the same day. Epic singles “November Rain” and “Civil War” proved how quickly the band had evolved in a few short years, and they were soon packing stadiums all across the globe.  When the tour wrapped in late 1993, the band paid tribute to their 1970s hard rock, punk and glam heroes by recording an album of covers called The Spaghetti Incident.  The band took a long break starting in 1994, but in the new millennium Axl Rose brought a brand new line-up of Guns N’ Roses on the road and in 2008 they released their long-awaited album Chinese Democracy. In recent years, Axl has welcomed original members Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin onto his stage - but he remains committed to the new line-up and they remain a touring juggernaut.

I think that's a pretty fair sumation.

Doesn't pretend the new guys made AFD/UYI and also doesn't pretend that Chinese Demo and the new band never happened.

Just calls it as it is really.

Yeah, but does that mean that everyone under the Guns N' Roses band name, gets in to this induction? From that bio, it seems that way.

From my point of view, I've been a die hard GNR fan all my life and seen the ups and downs in popularity, and in the UK GNR pretty much disapeared from the public consciousness till about 2004 when greatest hits came out. Then all of a sudden GNR were cool again, getting airplay on the radio and spoken about in the media.

From the mid 90's till about 2004 I used to collect every article I ever came across, record every mention on TV - and they were few and far between, thats why I collected them, it was my favourite band and I got a kick out of seeing mentions of them.

But Greatest Hits changed that, and I firmly believe the successful 2006 Euro tour would have sold as badly as the abandoned 2001 Euro Tour if it wasnt for that albums success.

True. When people go to see GN'R, they want the old hits. Except a few nerds, nobody gives a flying F about CD. Just take a look at the current NA tour - people started to buy GH in serious amounts. It even re-entered the Billboard Top 200. Nobody bought CD. I guess it shows its relevance to the legacy.

Nobody bought CD because you can't buy CD in NA currently, one of the many things wrong with the CD situation.

At all 3 shows I was at, plenty of people were interested in and/or singing along with CD songs.

In Youngstown, during The Blues, a guy two seats from me leaned over and said "Is this from Chinese Democracy?" and I said yeah so he said "I really need to get it apparently, the songs I don't know are good". I told him I'd have to explain after the show why he can't buy it currently.

I guess it was only available for 6 weeks, right? Cause nobody bought it after the first month.

Face it: the general public does not cares about this incarnation, neither the other non-Slash line-ups. They care about Guns N' Roses, and if Axl Rose is singin', he can have any back-up band he wants, he can do a half-full arena tour. If it'd be the real band, then he'd play stadiums or sold-out arenas.

It'd be hilarious if every clown would be inducted who was on Axl's playlist for at least a month. Fuck it, the RRHOF induction would turn to be a joke, if even DJ and the other guys would be there, pretend to be Guns N' Roses. They could introduce the zillion cover bands, too.

I don't believe in the huge conspiracy and 3 fans' opinion won't convince me that CD had any part in their induction. There isn't a song that people would know.

GN'R is inducted for AFD and the UYIs. Even Slash's guitar tech, Erin Everly and Jack Daniel had more part in the band's success than all the post 1993 bands combined.
