Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
bono, MrID might as well drp the debate cuz you guys are goign in circles and its hurting my head
yeah orig band had chemistry bigtime but alot of it was worked on...they toured constantly for more than 2 years
this new band has pretty saweeome chemistry too, they interact well up there, now thats not saying that i think they should all get in and yes i think that most if not all of the new guys would be kind of embarrased to accept a nomination into the hall under the guns moniker, but tbh i dont the band personally and their opinion on the matter and i dont know how the hall works for this kind of thing, i still say it could swing either way
i tell you one thing though, IMO if Dizzy and Matt get in then Gilby should too
IMO there is a crystal clear deliniation of 2 eras in guns and i agree with Bono that basically one era ceased to exist and the other began to form...you guys are arguing semantics, you and i (the gnr nerds) know that they desolved over a period of years....average jo not so much, nothign happpened from sympathy up til OMG so for all intensive purposes Slash, Duff, Matt and Gilby all left at once. helll i didnt even know myself that gilby wanst on sympathy until like last year or the year before
Adler 1990
Stradlin 1991
Clarke 1994
Slash 1995-6
Matt 1996
Duff 19974 guys left under difference circumstances in a 4 year span of down time
new lineup does well worldwide, but let not kid ourselves, the popularity of GnR in 2011 doesnt hold a candle to the level of stardom they had in 1990-3
and that comes from the cake eating kool-aid drinking me
Really, I wasn't disagreeing with him. He just likes to argue
1 - I wasn't disputing that the original guys are the ones who deserve to go into the HOF. I don't care either way, but I'd like to see Axl and Slash on stage again. Bono has principles, though, and a criteria on which he will accept Axl and Slash on stage together. I don't.
2 - And I have never, ever, ever, ever said anything ever even remotely close that the new band holds the same popularity or sway to the original line up or anything like it. I did say, the band carried on. And my point was that the "replacing an original member trend" started long before the epic hiatus. And it started over seven years with Steven, not 4.
3 - I never said there wasn't more than one era with GN'R. There were actually a couple of them before the main guys split. I was talking specifics, you guys are talking perception... And this "semantic" point has to do with who should be in the HOF. That's what it had to do with. Which I was not arguing about.
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
I love how to some fans, Axl thanking them is part of some conspiracy and taken in any way as a negative.
The truth is, even Axl did play with Slash at the Hall Of Fame for 15 minutes. People are still going to say on the forums Axl owes it to the fans to do a classic era, tour. The obvious types of fans are never going to happy for more than 5 minutes straight.
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Here is some comment from Sorum about the whole thing.
Seems like he has also picked up the vibe in the past that a lot of GNR fans think he's a muppet
Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
fun stuff from matt there
i agree w/war there's no guarantee of good chemistry/performance if axl/slash r on stage. tokyo dvds immediately spring to mind of a band full of resentment going thru the motions. but any performance this time, no matter how devoid of good intentions still offers that chance @ closure (tho i agree w/AT who says certain 'fans' will never be happy)

Yeah, I'm with you on the ridiculousness of that U2 hypothetical. I saw a comment on one of the Indy reviews published last night that said what Axl is doing would be like Paul McCartney calling Wings the Beatles. Yeah, I guess, if you're a complete and utter moron who ignores the facts regarding what happend with GN'R. The fact is this: GN'R never ended, and all the members did not leave at once.
The band changed when Steven was replaced with Matt because they are completely different drummers. The band changed when one of the co-founders along with Axl, Izzy, left the band. Yet, they continued on without, IMO, the most important member in the band's history other than Axl. Then Slash left and they continued on with Duff. Duff actually played with Robin Finck. Then Duff left.
You cannot ignore the facts surrounding the situation just to make an argument. Well, you can, but you'll be called out on it

Re: Guns N Roses OFFICIALLY inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
For the record, I think the most original members should be inducted.
and
musicians involved in the performing and recording of chinese democracy material should get applicable mention.
I do think the right thing for axl to do is to perform with slash and co. at the hof.
i can also see the motivation for him not do that if his intentions, moving forward, are to carry on with ashba and co. as an active and relevant band.

seriously! I said they all left at the same time, everyone knew what I ment and then you had to go on and lecture me about the down to the second timeline of member departures to the point you started talking about Chris Vrenna.... Yeah and I like to argue... well maybe but do NOT act like you were not pushing buttons big time for the sake of arguement.

This is something you've blown out of proportion cause you told me earlier to stick to them and not watch the ceremony if any new member were inducted. I have principles yes and if it were up to me and I had final say and Axl said "I don't show unless the new guys get inducted" then I would say thanks for your input Axl but the new guys are not getting in. I have no say in the matter however and I'm watching it either way. Doesnt' make my principles any less strong.
2 . I did say, the band carried on. And my point was that the "replacing an original member trend" started long before the epic hiatus. And it started over seven years with Steven, not 4.
A trend is much different than 4 members that the world recognizes as Guns N' Roses all leaving the band over a period of time to which unless you'd been paying attention with a magnifying glass you'd think they all left at the "same time" What is so hard about this fo you to admit I don't know. The band was basically wiped clean after TSI but if it helps you sleep at night to recognize it as a gradual trend and the evolution from the Illusion era to the CD era was natural then ok. Fact is the rest of the world looks at it as a major house cleaning. Basically two completely different bands in the "blink of an eye"
3 - I never said there wasn't more than one era with GN'R. There were actually a couple of them before the main guys split. I was talking specifics, you guys are talking perception...
Thing is the hard line specifics were never what was being discussed. You took it in that direction to for whatever reason defend the eveolution of the CD era. You refused to look at the two dstinct eras in Gn'R history because you're probably too busy worrying about when Tracii Guns left the band and still consider that as era #1 and AFD lineup era #2 Sounds ridiculous right? Well it's about the same as you going on and on about Robin and Duff being members together in Guns N' Roses... man I miss those days. Robin and Duff... such chemistry, so productive.

I don't even care what they do. I think it would be awesome to see them play together I think it would be great to see them tour together but if none of that ever happens oh well. What I'd want more than a performance or tour would be for them to get into studio and record one more album. I really could care less if they ever tour together again or play any type of one off show. I won't deny I would love for them to record an album together again but if that doesn't happen oh well. No big loss cause it's not an expecation of mine.
Fuck I just want some new Guns N' Roses material. Be it original lineup or new lineup up. Just crank something out. It's beyond ridiuclous how unproductive Gn'R has been since TSI.
