Re: My wall, 10 years ago
Mate I'm back living in my parents house and in my old bedroom, the very same poster is still flying high!
Its depressing as fuck actually, 10 years of not a lot - thats me and GNR.
Funnily enough I was going to make a thread a while back asking is it time to come down, I abandoned the idea after reflection cause I felt it was OTT dramatic
Re: My wall, 10 years ago
10 fucking years pushing and talking about the same damn album. More if you think about it...1998-2001
I wonder where this special promo idea came from, that guy with the bandana thing. He's actually Japanese, so it's funny. Was it Axl's idea? Where did that came from? Why did they change it going into 2002 (with the big star, I also bought that one).
So many questions. I sort of miss it at times. That mystique and mythical feeling of this stuff.
Re: My wall, 10 years ago
The guy with the bandanna has that star on it instead of the rising sun, in 2002 it was just the star remaining.
I miss that mystique as well, thats part of the reason I wanted to take the poster down, to me it represents a different era of GNR, and that era is gone. That was a time where I believed something was happening to take GNR forward musically, now its a different GNR who are kickass live, but to me its like that (perhaps imagined by me) purpose of adding to the musical legacy of GNR has been left by the wayside in favour of just going out and playing the old songs and making the best of it.
Mabye its not a bad thing, mabye the best has yet to come...
It could be the whole CD era took so long and was so cumbersome because they were really trying so hard to force the issue and reach the mythical heights that a new GNR album demanded, and that pressure just bogged down the whole process.
Mabye this new approach of having fun and bonding first and foremost is a much healthier way if taking the band forward than locking a bunch of strangers in a studio and asking them to make a the best record of all time.

You know I read this thread title in Andre the Giant's voice.
For old school WWF people - the build up to wrestlemania 3 - where he tears Hulk Hogan's crucifix off with the phrase "3 years to be a champion - it's a long time"
Well..here we are "Ten Years to be a GNR fan...."
Although I'm more of a fan since the AFD it does make you think.
But then in 2001 I wanted an album...here we are in 2011 and I got that album...and for my own part I've been happy with it.
To me the question is what happens next. The band seems to be avoiding discussion of it - and I would too I guess - last thing they want to do is set up a new CD era expectation/wait by promicing stuff too early.
But for me...I really hope we do get more music in the future...if for no other reason than I beleive that the people involved can make great music...there's so much talent in Axl and his people...would be a shame if nothing else was done...but I guess it's their call in the end.
