Re: That Metal Show, Trunk/GN'R Discussion
Axl needs to answer the late question like this:
I can't turn it on and give the same show other bands give. For me to give my best, It takes me time to get psyched up and ready to go out and give something different and all I have to the fans. I can't go through the motions like a lot of other bands today.. So I may come on late, but I hope the fans realize I only do it so i can give everything i have and do the best i can to give them a special performance/show that they will never forget.
BAM, All is good.
He HAS said something to that effect, back in '92, but people have short memories I guess and wouldn't remember that.
"The pressure of having to do the show when whatever else is going on in my life is hard to get past. We did a show in Finland where I just couldn't understand why I was doing what I was doing. I sat down while I was singing "Civil War," and I was kind of looking at my lips while I was singing and looking at the microphone and looking at the roadies, and everything just shut off. Well, that doesn't make for a very good show. We're out there to win at what we do. And if that means going on two hours late and doing a good show, I'm gonna do it. I take what I do very seriously."

That 2006 version blows away current version. Wow.... He sounds so weak now on that song.
Apart from a preference for a raspy tone, I don't understand how someone can listen to that and think it's so much better than how he sounds now on that song.

Jamester and MSL can probably elaborate more, but according to the MSL stuff Robin was pretty upset when he left.
Well, I don't trust MSL's interpretation or spin on things because of what Jamester said about the Beta e-mail on how to "trick" Axl, and how it was spun. But, other than Jamester saying the other day that Robin wasn't getting paid and left, I don't recall any other information being put out there.

I absolutely hate HATE HATE Axl's Mickey Mouse voice and he's using it again, especially on LALD. Look at this this from 06:
Until he stops using the Mickey Mouse voice from 02, 2006 is still head and shoulders above this current tour, at least where Axl's voice is concerned.
That 2006 version blows away current version. Wow.... He sounds so weak now on that song.
Totally agree. LALD was one of the songs that I turned to my group immediately when their faces kinda cringed, and said "it was better in 2006".
And I stand by that. LALD sounded alot better when I heard him in 2006. YCBM also, which he had the Mickey Mouse voice on in 2011.
The rest though was either 2006, but mostly 1991. He was kicking ass.
Speaking of Robin, my wife met his dad the other day. Robin's dad says Axl was a jerk....that's all she got out of him.
And from what I saw from 2001-2007, Robin was pretty much a jerk. Not being defensive, but the guy was horrible with fans and with audiences.
Real weird guy. Never understood the fan fare, especially with how he behaved. Then again the same exact thing could be said about Axl.
Interesting stuff tho. Not surprising, but interesting.

And no one, including us, the GN'R fans across the world, music lovers, and professional vocalists can understand how you can think 2001-02 Axl sounds "good".
I mentioned all of those people because i've played GN'R boots to every single one of them, and they ripped Axl's soul apart when they heard his "clean" voice.
You're entitled to your opinion, but it's certaintly not a popular one.

Ron has a really zainy sense of humour and quite an exciting/fun/manic type demeanour to hang around with.
He was just fooling with the Badgering bit...that's why he just kept going back to it...David Letterman style...
Although his underlying point is probably true. I think all famous people must
get sick on facebook/twitter of comments that ignore their actual discussion.
You know like if he was to post:
"Should I shave or not shave the beard off?"
And for every answer to the question there's 20 replies of "tell Axl to call slash" and "play in my suburb". Part of the game for celbs but it's got to be frustrating. Especially in a situation like GNR where people like bumble engage with the fans more than the people in charge of what happens (Axl) - so like some of the fan requests (write music etc) he probably wishes for himself but is mostly powerless to enact.
Anyway...i'm just saying Ron's done what like 5 years in the band now? More? He probably did hear "play estranged" every day
But overall he's just a good natured guy kidding around, I wouldn't make too much of it. It's worth mentioning that if he was off form in this interview too, that he's also been struggling with a lot of pain managment issues since an accident awhile back...so he deserves a bit of slack, it's amazing given the situation that he's still out there kicking ass and taking time to do interviews on top of the on-stage demands.

I think Axl's 2006 voice blows 2010-11 out of the water. Again, it's all personal taste.
And it's not having a short term memory when the guy explained why he goes on late 20 years ago. You can't blame not knowing that quote on short term anything
There were several reason's Robin left. One was he was tired of waiting around and CD wasn't getting released. Pretty understandable. Another had something to do with being pissed off at the songs leaking. I still don't understand that.

I do.
I mean he worked pretty hard on it I'm guessing, and let's be honest, elements of the way GNR works is kinda unusual, and it's probably frustrating at times. So he's waiting and waiting to show off all his hard work - probably hoping that when it comes out it will be released to a bigger than ben hur media blitz...
Then someone lets the cat out of the bag and 90% of the album is out there - not only do you not get the bang bt it's out there in shit format without even a decent audio mastering job...
I'd be fucking pissed. I'd guess it's not about not wanting fans to have the work, it's about wanting things to be presented properly.

Ummm... that answer would come off like a load of bullshit. Who are these other bands that are "going through the motions" they sure as fuck aren't bands the Gn'R crowd is going to see. Maybe if they're hitting up a Simple Plan show ro soemthing I don't know. I've been to over 150 concerts in my time and only once did I eve see a band that genuinely seemed to be "going though the motions" and that was REM. Just because a band goes on at 9pm doesn't mean they are going through the motions and just becausde Axl comes on at 11pm or later doesn't mean he's delivering anything more because of it.
I think Axl's 2006 voice blows 2010-11 out of the water. Again, it's all personal taste..
Based on actual lives shows I attended as well as boots on youtube I believe the exact opposite. His voice in 2010-11 kicks the shit out of his voice in 2006.
Axl should just say "I come on late because thats' when I feel most comfortable." No more, no less. Anything else is just bullshit.

Watch that 2006 vid of Axl and Kid Rock doing Nightrain.. Fuck he blows Kid Rock out worse than he did Tom Petty in 89.
Don't think I ever saw that - any chance you know what show it was?
