Re: November 13th, 2011: Minneapolis, MN @ Target Center
Going to a show alone sounds wierd, but you can't talk to anybody while the show's going on anyway, and when it's last minute you can get a much better single seat than you can a pair or more. I've done it a few times and have never regretted it.
I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert once WITH a bunch of friends. Problem is I got so hammered, I left my seat to go to the bathroom and got lost and couldn't find my way back. So I went into a section I THOUGHT I was sitting in. I was wrong, but there was an open seat, so I sat down next to complete strangers. I started nodding off during songs I didn't know (not the biggest Springsteen fan) and the people would ask me if I was alright. I can't imagine what they were thinking.
Luckily I was able to find my friends in the parking lot after the show. So in essence, I did go to a concert solo once and it was all good. My advice though, as always, don't get TOO drunk. I have a hard time following that rule unfortunately.

I've been to a lot of shows alone. Sometimes it just has to be done.

My two GN'R shows in 2006, I went alone.
Both ways have their pros and cons
The pros to being alone is you experience the show on a more technical level. You pick up on more stuff because you have more time to concentrate (if you're not drunk & high). You can hear mix, the band, the vocalist, the whole thing... nothing gets past you.
The con to being alone is... you're fucking alone. It absolutely sucks to be witnessing and experiencing something cool as fuck and not be able to share it with anyone.
The pro to going with people is the whole experience is more well-rounded. Getting a group together the whole thing becomes a "life moment". Being able to rock together just makes the whole thing more fun, and more exciting like a roller coaster ride. Who wants to ride Space Mountain alone? No one.
The con to a group is there's more variables now involved. Some people look at Axl's lateness different than others. Some people enjoy or don't enjoy the show differently than others. 'Cause all it takes is one asshole in the group who gets TOO drunk and instead of enjoying the show you're having to keep everyone in the place from beating their obnoxious ass. Or you get someone who spends the entire show with their arms crossed, with that "impress me" look on their face, complaining about how much everything costs, how slutty all the girls look, Axl's gotten fat, Axl doesn't have it anymore, what a waste of money, and all they've heard at this point is the opening band.
I still think ultimately I prefer going with people and being able to experience and love it with others, rather than doing it alone. You feel more isolated that way. But like with Buckethead... I went alone. Why? Because I knew I was the only guy who would "get it" in my circles.
