I think we are allowed to measure them up in this case. Because i'm not measuring their GN'R shit.

I'm measuring their solo shit, based on two solo shows. Bucket is better and was better. Simple as that.

And Bucket didn't have near the equipment, backing band, money, organization, fan fare, and 25 year old back catalog to help him.... and he still was the man.

Axlin08, please no the difference between music and a wank fest.  I love Bucket, and he has more chops than Slash, but, he doesn't have an ounce of the taste and soul that Slash has, and as far as chops, Slash ain't "that" far behind. Slash come from the blues rock school.  Bucket from a neo-classical/metal school.  Way different. However, you will hear both cross over into each other genre's.  Oven in Slash's blues solo's you will hear the same exotic scales Bucket plays, but with Slash's touch.

Guthrie Govan smokes Buckethead, what is your point.  There is always someone more talented, or that can play faster, few have the ability Slash and Jimmy, and Jeff Beck do to touch your soul and move you.

Buckethead is better than Slash. I've seen both and Slash is a fantastic guitarist... Buckethead annihilates him.

there is no accounting for taste i suppose

slash and zakk are my 2 favorite guitarists though so if i had a chance to see either i'd do my best to be there and i would choose those 2 over all others

Are we talking speed, general technique, choice of melody...or song writing or what?

If you want to get into speed I'd give it to Bucket...although slash has some chops...but pure clock speed bucket would be faster.

general technique...hmmm...depends how you look at it....bucket's got the 8 finger thing happening but then that's sort of a party trick. Bucket does have a lot of control though - the sounds he gets out - but then slash has something going on the way he channels feelings into some of his notes...the notes arn't hard to play but his touch is unique

Choice of melody....choose your poison.....people complain that slash relies on the same scales...but then bucket relies on his killswitch, paul gilbert runs and bursts of tapping just as much really. Bottom line to me is that you could predict what either of them might do over a chord progression. So it comes down to taste as to which you one likes.

Song Writing - taste again - for me slash is more solid - I like most slash work where as bucketheads stuff to me is more like 1 in 5 is cool. I'm sure there's guys there who are the inverse of that though. There's about 2 or 3 bucket songs I think that are some of the best things ever played on guitar - but then again there's 2 or 3 albums from slash that have changed my life...so yeah....

like i say..to me can't really measure....two great players with two different approaches...for different purposes....like comparing Tits and Ass wink
