Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
It's a fun little rant, if a bit hard to transscribe. I do get the Peter thing clear as a day.
"I dedicate this to our maybe manager right now, 'cause I'm trying really hard Peter, and I'm trying really fucking hard. Dammit. Jesus, Mary and Joseph hanging on the fuckin' cross, god dammit - Shit!"
Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
I don't understand why everyone including TMS can ask slash about Axl, but heaven forbid they bring Slash to Axl. Everyone is still scared of Axl. Just bullshit.
true and it's more a commentary on Axl than anyone intervieiwng him. Nobody wants to blow the fucking chance to interview the guy. It just shows how fragile Axl is.
the interview wll be cool but I'm guessing very little of anything of interest will come of it. It's just my thoughts. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Not sure what his little rant was about in that video but man does he come off incredibly lame.
Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
Guys as weak ass as Axl's inner circle are, at this point you just have to deal with the fact this is how it is.
And frankly they're probably right... had Axl known before hand, he'd of probably just cancelled. He's notorious for that.
Them doing it the way they did, is why you got what you got. Looking forward to it. First big Axl, "band oriented" interview since 1993. And with That Metal Show, which is great. Can't wait.

Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
The managements reasoning behind this is that Axl would've otherwise been "freaked the whole day" about the first proper interview "in 20 years" - and it's probably set out to be the first proper filmed interview since the Illusion days (his most in-depth talks since, with Kurt Loder and David Wild in late '99, were not filmed). His mulling over the issue beforehand would've "effected him as a performer on stage", which was something the management wanted to prevent.
This backs up stuff I've suspected for a long time. That much of the "stepford wives" activity around Axl is actually caused by his managment's perception (right or wrong) of what will upset him and the desperte attempt to avoid him having an outburst of emotion.
In my opinion stuff like the censorship at HTGTH, the endless speculation about people wearing Slash shirts at gigs, the failure to admit slash to axl the night he showed up etc, refusal to do interviews, traveling seoerate...probably reflect this stuff. I'd guess at some points Axl is upset about what he reads on the net and so on - and basicly those close to him work 24/7 to make sure nothing gets past that will set him off.
It's also possible to me that Axl has a somewhat obsessive nature. It's probably what leads to his genius with songwriting - but I also suspect at times the inaction is due to him being his own worst critic - and he doesnt like to pull the trigger until he's convinced he's up to his own standards...and to me the speculation that the fear of fucking up that interview would fuck with his mind to the extent of fucking up a show reinforces that.
All very interesting. The problem for him must be in who to trust. On one hand people censoring your world to not upset you could be benifical if you have a tendancy toward extreme bouts of rage or sorrow...on the other...i wouldn't like the maniplulation aspect of it...that people are planning shit for him in advance then just dropping it in his lap...
Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
A good summation Monkey. The dropping it in the lap is not a good thing, that's how things like tours get booked without Axl knowing, private screenings of Black Hawk down that turn out to be public, countdowns of the number of Tuesday's left, private shows that don't happen, etc etc etc.
People have then got the ass and lost their job or fallen out of favour when it turns out that Axl didn't know anything about whatever it was they were organising for him. Clearly the people doing the organising (like booking a tour, or turning up for an intereview like TMS) are doing it fully believing Axl is cognisant of what is going down. Sounds like often he's not.
With the TMS thing Axl was cool and went along with it when he found out, but obviously in the past he's not been happy with some things (which is his perogative) and then the people doing the organising get made the scapegoats. But it's actually the mangement (or go betweens) that are truly to blame since they haven't been talking straight with anyone. When they are caught out in a lie, they simply blame others, e.g. if Axl chose not to do the TMS thing and it blew up, I bet you the line would be "nobody ever told them Axl was going to do an interview".
Shame because I think Axl is a lot more positive and upbeat and would be prepared to do a lot more things like this interview than people (his own people) give him credit for. Whenever he does speak at length he seems to be a very genuinely funny and engaging individual. Shame we don't get to see more of that, it would do wonders for his public persona if we did see more of it too.
Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
Now you're getting the hang of it.
This whole middleman business is something that's been recently popping up in the discussions here, and Florentino's account essentially confirms how things have been with Axl for quite some time - unless you hear something directly from him, don't assume it's coming directly from him.
The image coming to focus in front of me is that of a 50-year old man basically catered on all things by his entourage. He gets this red carpet treatment from them on all things - the downside is that by receiving a one-sided version of the surrounding world, he's painfully vulnerable. Even a pebble will feel like a shard of glass if you haven't walked barefoot in years.
As Monkey suggests, the HTGTH censorship can be read as a continuum of this same management decree, and if so, these people at the management are seriously deluded. Cutting back on all criticism eliminates the constructive bits as well, and what do you end up with? A 50-year old acting like a baby when things go boo-boo. Hey, nice going - you're really doing the man a favor, there.
Axl, with his years and experience of the industry should've, by now, developed a bit more thick skin and come to terms with the fact that, even if all goes exactly the way he likes it down at the mansion, the outside world is an imperfect universe and the stars won't align on a nightly basis for his big show. Sometimes, you need to think about the big picture and be willing to compromise in order to deliver your very best under uneasy circumstances.
Let's hope he has free Internet access, so he can come down to Evo and lurk some. By George, after a few weeks here, he'd be tough enough to unload all remaining CD material, record a brand-new EP with the current lineup and still have the time to rehearse with Slash for RRHOF.

Re: Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers*
I'd guess it'll be something with more context than it's been stated in this thread...like "I know to some people it's not guns and roses"
Which isn't the same thing as saying he thinks it's not GNR himself.
His chat comments on the name issue explain it IMHO - unless he's had a change of heart:
I didn’t make a solo record. A solo record would be completely different than this and probably much more instrumental. I made a Guns record with the right people who were the only people who really wanted to help me try, were qualified and capable while enduring the public abuse for years . The songs were chosen by everyone involved. I didn’t want to do This I love in anyway shape or form and Robin and Caram insisted gaining Tommy’s and the others support. There’s been a lot of pressure to go with using my name (all external) but that never felt right to me for this band and the parameters in regard to this music have lots more to do with the mindset of Guns than something else. The instrumental I wrote for End of Days that’s more a solo effort at least presently.
As far as a new name…this is who I am not whatever else someone else thinks of. I don’t see myself as solely Guns but I do see myself as the only one from the past making the effort to take it forward whether anyone approves or not and giving beyond what many would or fight for to do so. The name helped the music more than you could ever know and I’m not talking in regards to studios or budgets I mean it as in being pushed by something and having to get the music to a place where I can find my peace regardless of what anyone says. And that wasn’t fully achieved until the last round of mastering and swapping out a version of a track at the pressing plant that had gotten inadvertently changed at the last minute.
Also the name was what the industry wanted as well and the burden of keeping it was something to endure in order to make the record. After the monies invested by old Geffen (that were decisions made that have worked out for me but I'm on record as having opposed) dropping the name became suicide.
