Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
I think the HOF would go down without a live peformance from GNR....maybe get like A7X or someone like that who have strong GNR influences to do a tribute set.
I don't see that happening. I would at least see a Velvet Revolver feat. Izzy w/ Myles on front, or a new GN'R show feat. Izzy, Steven & Duff.
Just a few songs, but I don't see why either of those things wouldn't happen.
It'd piss EVERYONE off, but yeah I could still see it happening.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
As of right now, I see all the old members playing without Axl and having a guest vocalist.
My hope is to have an original line up do the show. For some reason I don't think its totally out of the question. But it's pretty obvious Axl's "beef" with Slash goes much further than burying the hatchet on a few things. It seems that Axl hates Slash as a human being. I think we all have a few of those people in our lives, who were even friends at one time. I know there are people I was close with once who I refuse to be in the same room with now.
But then again... Axl is a really tough character to predict. Maybe if they could assure and reassure him there will be no pressure for a reunion, and have an old/new GN'R line up blow out of PC at the end, maybe it could happen.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Well that's a good point, and something I said too originally. Wenner is not gonna stagnate and sandbag this thing, until Axl gets "ready".
He knows right now he could get Slash, Duff, Gilby, Steven & Matt there to all "represent" GN'R, all of which LOVE the red light on a camera, all of which are GN'R diplomats for the cameras.
We'll find out on Nov. 11th, how much the HOF means to Axl, because Axl's not stupid. He knows HOF means "reunion", even if it's a slight, small one-off. He also knows he's not gonna be able to run from this forever. He's gonna HAVE to face it.
The key imo will be -- Duff. And only Duff. If Duff can play mediator, and possibly even DJ, Ron & Tommy acting as 'cheerleaders' for Axl to do it... he might do it.
The better question then becomes, if that doesn't happen. Would Wenner prefer a GN'R performance feat. Axl, Izzy, Duff & Steven? Or a GN'R performance feat. Slash, Izzy, Duff & Steven?
As much as it pains me to say this, AND disagree with the choice... I think Wenner would opt for a Slash-fronted GN'R.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
I think Izzy would be a big influence, too. I think if Axl shows, Izzy will.
Madagas was kidding the other day about this, but I was actually thinking about it. What if they could agree to get Axl and Slash on stage without having to talk to each other off stage? I know thats a HUGE stretch, but stranger things could happen.
I used to think Slash would basically say or do anything to make something like this happen, now I'm not so sure.
I think Steven opening his mouth and saying something stupid could be a bigger hurdle, though.

Even though I'm a reunionist who doesn't consider Axl's current band to be Guns N' Roses, I also feel there is no GN'R without Axl's voice. It is one of the most distinct voices in rock and roll and it helped set GN'R apart from every other rock band in the 80's and early 90's. If Axl ain't there, it ain't GN'R even if you have 4 of the original 5. Wenner would be a fucking idiot to leave Axl out of it. He'd be better off getting a completely different band to play a few tribute songs. Just my two cents.

Yeah Steven would be a big issue. 'Cause he'd just grab the mic and say "reunion starts now" or some shit like that, and the whole stack of cards would come tumbling down in seconds.
Then again it also depends on how good a mood Axl's in. If he's feeling the good vibrations at that moment, he might just let it slide and keep going unphased.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Steven started on Axl about the reunion stuff when they met in 06 during a Vegas show, and according to Steven Axl laughed it off. But during the chats Axl pointed to Steven in that he was afraid to do anything on any level with him because of all the baggage it would bring, including pressuring him about a reunion and then becoming the evil-villain for not doing anything beyond a one off show.
I think Slash wouldn't be the main road block and there could be (maybe wishful thinking) some kind of peace made. I guarantee you that if that scenerio did happen, Slash and Axl make peace, Slash would be a bigger pro new GN'R supporter than Duff. I remember when the Axl "I love Slash" thing came out in Rolling Stone and directly after Slash was saying how amazing he heard Chinese Democracy was. I actually thought we'd see Slash on stage with the new lie up at some point during that period. I think those two things were very connected.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Well I think the problem with Steven, no different than Matt, is they were the only two guys that ever stood up to Axl back in the day. They basically threatened to kick his ass when he was being a dick, and were willing to back it up.
They seem to have a very short fuse with Axl's bullshit, and I don't blame them.
But I think it's obvious that if Axl says, "I'll go and perform with Slash, I just don't want Steven or Matt there"... shit... you'd have Frank Ferrer playing drums in the one-off show in a nanosecond.
Re: Duff- RE: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
I'm sorry, I don't believe a single thing Matt says. I heard him on Monsters Of The Mid Day a long time ago, where he said Axl got them into a room, he included himself, while they were all drunk and stoned and made HIM sign over the GN'R name to him or he wouldn't go on tour.
Matt said HE signed over his rights. HIS RIGHTS.
Matt never had any rights to the GN'R name. And I've never heard from Slash or Duff, the only ones who had rights to the name, ever include Matt in that story.
