Nirvana is one of those bands that I just can't choose which cut of their's is my favorite. But Lithium, Something In The Way, Pennyroyal Tea, and All Apologies would be constantly in consideration.

Which is why Velvet Revolver was so average. They picked the worst fuckin' vocalist they possibly could've to be a Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.

All Apologies - that is as pop as it gets...  Nirvana had a few catch tunes, but that kind of garage punk doesn't really have a place for guys like Slash, Zakk, Eddie, Jimi, Jimmy, etc.. I love guitar music with balls, sex, passion, you won't get that with Nirvana.  With Nirvana, Kurt is the star... that is fine, but I need riffs and solos...

I agree with misterID. I might have some opinions in here about Cobain and Nirvana being the #3 or #4 of the Seattle bands, but Nirvana's popularity hasn't wained at all:

Honestly this NItvana thing just might be one of the most interesting topics cause your post Axlin is further proof of how different it is for each market. Nirvana is..... whatever around here. Seriously don't know anyone who loves them and only ever really hear SLTS on radio and All Apologies once in a  while.

They are nowhere near the popularity of Pearl Jam or Guns N' Roses round these parts.

Well I totally agree with that, except for the Pearl Jam thing. Even though half of Ten is still played on a daily basis around here, I don't personally know ANY Pearl Jam fans, outside of a couple of stumbled across working over the years.

Guns N' Roses popularity FAR FAR FAR eclipses ANY grunge band in this area. I still here people talk Guns N' Roses love around here, but I would say that Metallica is more popular.

I have met and known SOME Alice In Chains & Stone Temple Pilots fans. AIC & STP still remain pretty fuckin' popular and their tunes are played constantly. I remember both watercooler chat for Black Gives Way To Blue & STP 2010, but not Backspacer.

I did know a couple Nirvana fans, one of which was my cousin. Ironically we had three male cousins on my dad's side. I was the oldest. Get this -- I became the GN'R nut, the middle cousin became a Metallica nut, and the youngest Nirvana nut.

Go figure

I still don't see a ton of Nirvana fans, but that doesn't mean that their popularity and radio play aren't there. They are still played shitloads on local radio here in the South, along with Pearl Jam & AIC. Soundgarden is played the least, by far. But GN'R & U2 smoke them all by universes, in terms of radio play.

I think if Pearl Jam hadn't intentionally pulled the E brake on their massive success in the beginning, the attitude towards them would be drastically different today. They went out of their way to distance themselves from what people loved about them in the beginning for many years.

After Vitalogy, They were intentionally abrasive and hard to listen to. I remember buying No Code on cassette, and thinking "That is the last PJ record I will ever waste money on." I can't imagine I'm the only one. My brother gave up after he heard Vs.  It's only recently that they've started to put together catchy songs again. But they DO have a legion of die hard fans. I still dig 'em.... But their place in history isn't what it should have been.

...And honestly, I connected more with Ten and Vs. more than anything Nirvana ever recorded.

I liked Ten more than anything Nirvana ever did too, which is why I don't rank them higher than PJ or AIC, overall.

Ten is a fucking masterpiece. I listened to it again awhile back, and was just blown away at how amazing it was. For years I stated Dirt was the best rock album of the 90's, but Ten would be right up there.

Need to dust off Vs.

But like your brother, I gave up on them too after Vs. I preferred their catchier stuff.
