MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: Praying For My Fans And The Tour To All Be Blessed - Mar. 6, 2011
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following messages on his "verified" Twitter account:
March 4: "Celebrating being married to my best friend of 20 years and 1 day. At a famous resort near our beautiful city; we snuck away from it all!"
March 6: "We had a great anniversary. Time to finish preparing for the tour. Going to church today to pray for my fans and the tour to all be blessed."
MEGADETH and SLAYER will team up for the "European Carnage Tour 2011" in March/April.
Mustaine revealed during an online chat in November with members of the band's official fan club, Cyber Army (formerly MegaFanClub), that MEGADETH had "five songs almost finished" for its next studio album. Mustaine was also scheduled to go over the new material at the band's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California with engineer Ken Eisennagel, who previously worked with MEGADETH during the pre-production phase for 2009's "Endgame" and 2007's "United Abominations" CDs.
Mustaine said in a recent interview that MEGADETH's new album is shaping up to be "more like 'Endgame', maybe sticking in that vein and going a little forward toward what I like."
Speaking to Australia's FasterLouder, Mustaine said he preferred "Endgame"'s more aggressive moments. "We were forced, in a way, to have to do certain things and it's really easy for me to blame somebody, but at the end of the day it was my fault, I could have said no, but I didn't," he said. "I was nervous that we were going to end up getting kicked off the label. I figured I would rather go underground and play what I like, and not sell as many records, but still be able to look myself in the face in the morning."

Greg Prato of UGO recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
UGO: What can fans expect from the next MEGADETH album?
David Ellefson: We are working on it now so it's a bit early to encapsulate what the final will ultimately sound like. I think we know the punch and impact we want it to have but also not be afraid to let new ideas develop, too. Just know it will be heavy, hooky, and have the trademarks you'd come to expect from us.
UGO: Any idea when it will be released?
David Ellefson: I know the business side want to lock in schedules for release but sometimes you can't contain a creative process AND a schedule. It just needs to flow. For us, the scheduling is second to making a great record. It will be done when it's done.
UGO: Dave [Mustaine] once told me in an interview that he wrote the bass line to "Peace Sells". Do you agree or disagree?
David Ellefson: He created the riffs and the lyric. It was one of those songs that just fell into place from top to bottom within a couple hours once we were all in the band room together jamming on it. It was the first time that ever happened in MEGADETH up to that point, actually. In fact, most of our "singles" have been like that over the years. I think it says something about the magic of spontaneity when writing. Plus, there is chemistry within every line-up that can never be duplicated either. I think that's why our fans gravitate toward various albums because there is an identifiable spark with those musicians that created those exact songs together at that specific moment in time.

MEGADETH has tapped Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis; DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD, STAIND) to produce the band's new album, tentatively due this fall via Roadrunner Records. The drum tracking for the CD began this week, with the entire recording process expected to be completed by the time the group hits the road this summer as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with DISTURBED and GODSMACK.
A short video message from bassist David Ellefson and drummer Shawn Drover — filmed at the band's studio in San Marcos, California, Vic's Garage, which was named after the legendary and iconic Vic Rattlehead character — can be viewed below.
Although British producer Andy Sneap — who helmed MEGADETH's 2009 album "Endgame" — was initially supposed to reteam with the band for the forthcoming album, has was forced to pull out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. He explained in a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, "I'm doing another project that I also play guitar in called HELL and we're doing some summer festivals this year so it kind of cut into the whole schedule that was planned with MEGADETH."

"Endgame" has sold around 150,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
MEGADETH's platinum-certified 1986 masterpiece, "Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?", has been digitally remastered for the first time and expanded for a special 25th-anniversary release in multiple configurations. It will be released July 12 by Capitol/EMI.
All of the versions, including a 2CD lift-top box, digital album and a deluxe 5Disc+3LP box set, contain a previously unreleased 1987 concert from the band's first world tour and new liner notes written by Mustaine and METALLICA's Lars Ulrich.

MARTY FRIEDMAN Is 'Absolutely Not' Interested In Taking Part In 'Rust' Anniversary Celebrations - June 14, 2011
DJ Marco Garavelli of Italian web radio Linearock.it recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman. You can now watch the chat below.
On the topic of MEGADETH's "Rust In Peace" album and whether he wished in any way that he could have taken part in performing the entire LP live with the band to celebrate its recent 20th anniversary, Friedman said, "Absolutely not. The past is the past. I mean, it was a wonderful album and I'm sure [the current lineup of MEGADETH is] doing a great job playing it. So many fans wanna hear [those songs performed live], that's for sure — every time I do a guitar clinic I'm signing that record like it's going out of style and they want me to play stuff from it. I'm so happy about the great impact that that record has and I'm sure [the current lineup of MEGADETH is] making a lot of fans happy doing it, so I support them 1000 percent. But it's not something that I'm really interested in re-doing right now."

I love Marty's playing over the years, but at the moment I think Chris is the far better choice to be in megadeth....
the reason: Heart.....marty has musically moved on from metal..he's proud of his contributions and everything he did with dave is uber beautiful...but his heart is not in making any more. He loves Jpop music now and all kinds of other things. He's an amazing guitarist but if he returned to deth he'd be going through the motions like nothing on earth...it's completely obvious when talking to him he just has no interest anymore in that stuff.
Chris on the other hand is still exploring his chemestry with Dave. Some of their recent songs like Sudden Death, show that he has uber chops and definately can write in a way that compliments the band....
So really although i've always loved Marty...i'm really at a point now where I'm more excited about the future with Chris and Dave than trying to redo the past.

Is it as bad ass as that Sudden Death song that they made last year was? For that matter I heard that the album has a re-make of that track on it - is it bad ass too!

I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't have very high hopes for it. I'll give a better review later cause I gotta go to work in a couple minutes here!
