When I listen to those early 90's shows I can't get over how stale the band sounds, like on Jungle and PC. They had their moments, but for the most part, for me, they were flat. The curent line up has a groove that really stands out, imo. I'm not a huge fan of the current line up, either. But I like what I hear so far.

Brain was the best drummer in GN'R. Even though I don't think Steven was great by any means, he fit early GN'R and I don't think any other drummer would have for that line up. Much better than Matt. But then again, Matt probably worked better on the UYI songs way better than Steven could.

I for the life of me, if I was in fear of imminent DEATH, can NOT figure out what you're hearing in those current AFD songs.

the songs are beefier now due to the 3 guitars....whether they are better or not is obviously up to personal taste (just talking in a live setting)

I agree with the three guitarists thing. I get that. But i'm not hearing it with THIS band.

I heard it in 2006 and in 2002.
