Re: What "IF" Axl had released a solo album back in 1995
The beginning was fun but it started going bad our first gig opening for the Cult in Halifax between Slash and I. That’s when the ok I put up with all Axl’s and Izzy’s crap now I’m gonna be the man trip started with him runnin’ right out front on the ego ramp for the whole show. It was pretty funny.
I've always wondered about that comment.
To me in most hard rock outfits the stage show is about the interaction between the lead singer and the lead guitarist.
Regardless of if people love him or hate him, GNR's songs are full of very intense Slash guitar solos - so in terms of crafting an impressive stage show - it seems sort of logical for slash to be up front and making a deal out of himself in those moments in the music.
Just as it makes perfect sense for Axl to be the focus of attention and running and dancing and stuff doing the lyrics.
Know what I mean? He is the lead guitarist. It's not like Dizzy's grabbed a key-tar and is up front of the ramp hammering out the keyboard line while head-banging. What slash does is sort of expected I would have thought. So I never quite understood what Axl was saying here.

Axl sounds jealous and a bit insecure of Slash. I guess it bugs him Slash is a guitar player adnd just as famous as he is.. where He prob grew up thinking the frontman was the most important be all end all.
I think it's more along the lines that he's upset that the popular opinion is that Slash is an angel and can do no wrong and Axl is the complete opposite of that. Granted Slash has done plenty to create that image, and so has Axl. But I could see how that could get to someone.

Axl insecure about Slash? That's bullshit that I don't buy anyday.
I think it boils down solely to the fact that Slash is a "headcase girlfriend" who knew how to push Axl's buttons and got off on it. That's the reason Axl can't stand Slash to this day. Everything Slash says is done with such a backhanded, passive aggressive smarmyness, that even I pick up on it.
He gets off on it.
I think for Axl though it's like his poison. He just sees red.
That's why a reunion would be a "heavens n' earth" proposition at this point.
