I think apart from the usual exaggerations, the obvious lie from the GN'R camp is that Slash was sober. It lends credence to the sincerity of his approachment and if Slash wants to counter saying he was shitfaced that's hardly going to help him.
But the notion that Slash wanted back in shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. I'd put my net worth on that spin in a heartbeat.
The sad part is that Axl probably never got to hear what Slash actually had to say if it was conveyed to him through Beta.

The interesting part to this is me:
"Axl was hopeful that Slash would live up to his pronouncements that he wanted to end the war and move on with life. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case."
What did he do that so angered them AFTER this incident? Continue to answer questions about GNR when he's asked? Go back to VR? Fail to turn up to a reunion rehresal? What exactly is the problem I wonder.

If he got rebuffed, by a maid/assistant non the less, he probably did something. Found this interesting tidbit from Axl's chats.

A: Great question and here goes for all your inquisitive minds with a bit you aren’t aware of but is the real story…
Unfinished 1st run 1st dabbling/experimenting all in fun demo that became Duff’s favorite song at the time telling me how he loved to blast it at his house with Ice T and the Bodycount guys before Illusions came out and before it was decided to be on the record. I wanted to try and develop it and wanted guitars of some kind but Slash felt and his words at the Record Plant in all seriousness were “It’s perfect” and Slash and Duff were the deciding factor to have it on the album.
Personally I feel Duff legitimately liked it but I can’t say Slash did in the same way. In fact I feel he was keenly aware some would take issue with the track and against me so for him in that sense it was “perfect”. Imo Duff wasn’t aware or part of that and was “used” unwittingly for support in talking me out of developing it or not including it which at the time I had no real intention of using as is.
If that's the level Slash is working on, and I could see that, he could most likely still push Axls buttons if he wants to.

Interesting.
One thing I've noticed about Axl - at least from his media reputation - is that he's always seemed obsessed with the truth - he doesn't like it when people lie.
So if he thinks slash is playing games like pretending to like stuff when he doesnt just to mess with Axl's image then I can see how the hatred would begin.
I feel both ways on this. Slash strikes me as a survivor and a player, love his guitar but he's slick with the media, doesn't like confrontations and I can imagine at times he comes over as two faced.
Then again. From the other side. Axl's famous for rage and getting upset.
And it's clear this electronic dabbling had really captivated his excitment.
We all know slash is a guitar-aerosmith nut who probably didn't care for electronic music at all - especially in his youth....maybe he thought if he told Axl he thought it sucked then Axl would crack it - and didn't wanna risk the tour.
I mean think about it as slash - if you're writing stuff like snakepit - adding guitars to stuff like 'my world' is a stretch...maybe he just wanted nothing to do with it and was tryng to be polite. rather than having an agenda to make axl loose face. Or maybe it was part of some power struggle. Hard to know.
For what it's worth I legitimately enjoy my world. I like the lyrics heaps and I really like the sample of the cig lighter and the way it kicks the song back in. It's kinda a trip but I like the song.

The beginning was fun but it started going bad our first gig opening for the Cult in Halifax between Slash and I. That’s when the ok I put up with all Axl’s and Izzy’s crap now I’m gonna be the man trip started with him runnin’ right out front on the ego ramp for the whole show. It was pretty funny.
They are both alpha males, but it's always been obvious who the bigger alpha male is. If the above quote is accurate Slash has resented that from the beginning. At some point it had to give.
Somebody who's been burnt like Axl has is liable to take that resentment as enemy aggression, especially if he hears about it through middle men and Slash is playing backdoor games. Not because he has a conscious plan to destroy Axl but simply to relieve some of his frustrations by belittling his superior status. Personally I see that shit all the time in social contexts. Games are always being played between the contenders for the group. I have "friends" like that.
Guns was always Axls band in that from the beginning nothing happened that he didn't approve of. He wasn't legally so at that point but he might as well have been in that his personality de facto made him so. He was always the last to cave and had the talent to back it up. In doing so the others gave their consent. That's not as sinister as it might sound. True leadership is always assumed.
Problem is Axl is such a volatile personality. One the hand I believe that that insane focus, energy and aggression is what was the deciding factor in propelling the band from mere great to Stones, Zeppelin esque heights. Guns was a great band in itself and Slash has always carried a big star factor, but in that category of aforementioned bands Axl is in a league totally on his own. He's not the most consistent or powerful of voices but he's distinctive like Jagger and even Tyler could dream of, and a range out of this world. Just think about it - SCOM, Patience, YCBM, KOHD, Jungle, I don't Care About You, The Blues, Coma, Estranged - who could do this? Maybe Plant but that's it (and I doubt it).
On the other hand that volatility caused the rest of band to cow their line too much in fear of what might happen. This creates resentment all across the board and the snivelery way it's being done creates resentment with Axl, which he sees as ploys.
In that way it had to end and you could make the argument that it was Axls "fault" in that it probably would have happened with anyone in his case while the rest of the band could have become a AC/DC type of band with a different, more stable singer. However, for better or worse Axl is driving GN'R forward. The others left with their tails between their legs when the going got rough. As a fan of a band and what it stands for that's what I care about.
The other thing is, Slash is a proven liar and a coward. In fact that's not really even a dig at him, cause most if not all the people I have met in my life have been both of those things. I like to style myself as being less so, but I can't deny that when it comes down to it I am too. But when the band needed to move foreward and he quit out of "musical differences" what did he do? Whore himself out to commercials and every hack to visit the top 40. It's about the music? Bullshit. His ego got the best of him, tried to make a bid for it but overplayed his hand. And because of that childish shit he hasn't been in the band for 15 years, neither looking to get there. As Keith said: "whatever you do, don't leave the band".
The correct thing to do is to commend Axl for sticking through it. That guy truly doesn't give a fuck. Even if he's the most recognizable face on the planet and there are cameras and witnesses around, a horribly inappropriate time for doing so, oh he'll take you on. He writes ballads and people think he's the soft spot, but he's always been the real rebel in the band. And imo, hard rock or soft rock, that's what original GN'R was all about. The day I see him embarrassing himself with some hack artist or being on Idol or whatever I'm done as a fan, but until then he's still the only artist who struck it big that hasn't sold out. That's fucking respect.

Axl in 1994.
for the record, I wasn't just being a smartass. I really didn't like Snakepit and kinda knew when that happened that the Gnr I loved was done. I did get slightly excited again when Contraband came out. But, in the end, I only liked a few songs.
"Credibility" isn't really the right word. I lost "interest' in the music he was making around 95. Different strokes for different folks.
