Guns N' Roses Guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal Talks About His Favorite 'Use Your Illusion' Song
http://www.guitarworld.com/guns-n-roses … usion-song
In honor of the 20th anniversary of Use Your Illusion I & II, I recently broke down all 30 songs from the albums, ranked in order from worst to best.
During the process of trying to get in touch with GNR's people for an unrelated project, I also caught up with current Guns guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, and I asked him about his favorite song from UYI to play live. Here's what he had to say:
"It was May 2006, my first tour with GNR. Fans would email daily asking if we could please play 'Don't Cry.' I remember standing alone on stage in front of 100,000+ people, taking a solo, and I just started playing it on my own, motioning the audience to sing along. For the next year that became part of my solo, a lone guitar rendition, the audience singing along, a moment where we'd really connect each night. One of the last shows after a year of touring, I played it as an encore and Axl joined in and sang it, for the first time in over a decade. [We] started adding it back into the set after that. Always loved the song, but after all that it has an added personal meaning to me now."

Re: Bumblefoot's Favorite UYI Song
I'm glad to see Axl singing it again. One of my favorite GN'R bootlegs is an acoustic version from 1986. The crowd had no clue who the band was, obviously. The people are all sitting there chit chatting while the band plays, which is annoying when you watch the video of it. But Axl gave a stunning performance and the acoustic guitar work was great too. From the 2010 bootlegs I've seen, Axl can still sing the hell out of this song.

pretty f'n good and I am not a big fan of the song
Re: Bumblefoot's Favorite UYI Song
Don't Cry is one of those songs I'll always remember where I was the first time I heard it. If I remember correctly, it was the second single released off UYI? Released before the albums could be bought? Needless to say, I was underwhelmed. So it's cool a fakegnr member would say it was his favorite. Makes sense.

Actually that is a good rendition, for being so raw & early. vI too didn't care much for the song or it's selection as a single. Funny, those stupid people talking the whole song were probably 3 years later bragging about how they saw them before they were big & bragging how great they were back then. Yeah, that's why you talked during the whole set. Pretty cool how the last minute the crowd shuts up when Axl starts belting out the high notes.
And nice The Garden vid, that song aged well. Alot of UYI songs did.

The peeps that were talking probably didn't even remember it 5 years later. They only missed out on watching an unknown Top 10 hit by a legendary band 5 years before it was released. Idiots should have paid attention. Epic performance, especially by Axl. What a voice.
