This isn't your normal 1 through 10 list.
I think bands from every era range from great to shit with each copy cat sucking a little more from the genre till it dies.
For instance Nirvana would be a level 1 *top Level* whereas The Verve certainly would not be Level 1.
Trick to this game is, for us to place Grunge/nu metal/rock bands on each rung of the scale and debate who belongs where.
For instance Level 1 would easily be Nirvana,Soundgarden,STP,Pearl Jam, AIC etc etc etc but would Limp bizkit maintain a number 1 level?
how bout bands like Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20? etc...
Let's say Level 1 is greatest.. Level 4 is the shittiest... Place the bands on each one and see what we can come up with.
Gonna combine all 90's bands since their were various styles in that decade

Level 1 = great
Level 2 = good
Level 3 = average
Level 4 = shit
Level 1: Alice In Chains, Nirvana, White Zombie
Level 2: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots
Level 3: Brother Cane, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Korn
Level 4: Limp Bizkit, Creed, Red Hot Chili Peppers (yep), Dave Mathews Band (yep)

They had one album, and that's it. And even that album is spotty.
I guess you'd call me biased. But I cannot stand RHCP sound, their style, their image, their influence, their past, their present, their future, their whole California weed rock thing... no fucking thank you on anything and everything they've ever done or ever will do.
BUT I respect every single one of them as musicians and artists. That's their thing.
It's just not mine.
Anytime I hear their songs on radio, or rock radio... it literally is like nails on a chalk board for me.

Level 1: PJ, Soundgarden, NIN, RHCP, AIC, Nirvana, Metallica,
Level 2: Black Crowes, STP, Offspring, Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Korn, White Zombie, Hootie, Lemonheads
Level 3: Bush, Creed, Limp bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Gin Blossoms, Lit,
Level 4: Godsmack, Seven Mary Three, all the late 90s cover band one hit wonders (little miss backpack upsmack turn around shes on her back, Verve Pipe 'Freshman')
