Charlie Sheen quiets down some after manic spring

NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Sheen says his life's a lot calmer now.

The actor and former star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" told NBC's Matt Lauer that he didn't really know what happened this spring when he was fired from the show and began a manic round of media appearances talking about his "tiger blood" and "winning." Lauer's interview will air on the "Today" show on Friday, and NBC released excerpts on Wednesday.

"It was one of those things where the planets were aligned, perfectly or imperfectly. I said some stuff and then it caught such traction globally and instantly that I couldn't really put out the fire," Sheen said. "I had to keep fueling it."

Sheen said the experience "was like being shot out of a cannon into another cannon and then being just shot out of that one. It was like from one moment to the next I didn't know what was going to happen. It was pretty exciting."

The actor said he was sober but couldn't tell Lauer the last time he took drugs or drank. He said he didn't believe in keeping track of the sober time because "if you're walking around hanging on to your time, it's only a matter of time before it goes."

Now he says he's reconnecting with his children — Cassandra with former girlfriend Paula Profit, Sam and Lola with actress Denise Richards, and twins, Bob and Max, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller — and appreciating the quiet things in life.

"That's where the life is, you know, it's in those quiet moments," he said. "It's not the giant TV deal or the big party or the award or whatever; it's the memory of your child's smile at the end of the day that sort of brings that one lonesome tear."

Sheen is also appearing Thursday on the "Tonight" show. His re-emergence coincides with the airing of a Comedy Central roast of him Monday, the same day that Ashton Kutcher debuts as Sheen's replacement on "Two and a Half Men."

Charlie Sheen Tweets Photo with Ashton Kutcher backstage at Emmy's

TV's hottest rivalry has turned into a lovefest. Charlie Sheen met his "Two and a Half Men" replacement, Ashton Kutcher, for the first time at tonight's Emmys ceremony. But don't worry, no incoherent rants here: Sheen and Kutcher became fast friends, at least according to the photo Sheen tweeted from backstage.

"Giving the new kid a little advice..! With @aplusk [Ashton Kutcher] backstage at the Emmy's," Sheen gleefully tweeted, attaching a snapshot via Whosay.com of his animated conversation with Kutcher. He later tweeted, "Seriously... @aplusk great talking to you! We'll all be watching! Make us proud!!" along with this photo of himself and Kutcher arm-in-arm.

The Emmys are just the latest stop in Sheen's ongoing redemption tour, bouncing back from the bizarre series of interviews that got him fired from the hit CBS sitcom. Earlier in tonight's ceremony, Sheen presented the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy category (the same one that earned him four nominations for "Men") and gave the Kutcher-led "Men" his seal of approval: "From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season."

Kutcher poked fun at the controversy as well when he presented another award alongside his new "Men" co-star, Jon Cryer. Cryer began by saying, "Hello, I'm that guy from 'Pretty in Pink.'" Kutcher followed up with "I am not Charlie Sheen," then added, "Jon, I want to tell you something. I do not think that you are a troll," referencing Sheen's notorious insult of Cryer.

But the rivalry isn't dead just yet: Sheen will face off with Kutcher tomorrow night as his Comedy Central roast airs the same night as Kutcher's "Men" debut. Guess when the ratings come in, we'll see who's really #winning.

anybody else see the Roast last night? I thought it was pretty funny. Slash opened the show and even got roasted himself at one point.

I had a neutral reaction to it. I didn't think it was unfunny, I didn't think it was funny.

I thought it was exactly what it was...

An old sitcom going into it's 9th Season. That's what it looked like, sounded like, felt liked, and seemingly is gonna be like.

I'd be interested to see what the next couple episodes will be like. If Kutcher's chemistry doesn't develop more with Cryer, it's gonna get worse and worse.

The debut episode, neither of them seemed to have any chemistry at all.

Just watched The Charlie Sheen Roast.  Well, I haven't finished just yet.  Still have Patrice O'neil and Charlie to go.  It was pretty good though.  They always are.  Though I didn't know half of the people on the panel.  Really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel I guess.  Anyhow, Slash opened the show by playing Charlie in.  I was hoping more people would some friendly jabs at Slash, maybe bring up Axl along the way.  Only one roaster, Jeff Ross, mentioned Slash, at least that they televised.  A LOT of that shit gets edited down.  He was funny.  He said that Slash was the Abraham Lincoln of Rock N' Roll because of his hat, and the fact that he hadn't had a hit in four score and seven years.  Then he thanked Slash for playing his nephew's bah-mitzvah.

Visual evidence can be seen at the 8:37 mark

FX buys Charlie Sheen comedy 'Anger Management'
by Lynette Rice

Charlie Sheen has found his next home. FX announced today that it has acquired Anger Management, a sitcom loosely based on the 2003 movie of the same name from Joe Roth’s Revolution Studios. The home of Sons of Anarchy and American Horror Story has ordered 10 episodes of the comedy from the Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury, and will be written and executive produced by veteran comedy writer Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show).

The show will premiere next summer.

“We think that Bruce Helford, Joe Roth and Charlie Sheen have come up with a wonderful, hilarious vehicle for Charlie’s acting talents—and a character we are very much looking forward to seeing him play,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks, in a statement.  “Two and a Half Men has been an outstanding component of FX’s schedule for the past 14 months, and we have every confidence that Anger Management will soon be as well.”

As part of the deal, FX will pick up an additional 90 episodes under a special syndication model crafted by Debmar-Mercury for the Tyler Perry sitcoms and Revolution’s Are We There Yet? The series will air exclusively on FX until the off-network episodes start airing in broadcast syndication in fall 2014. Sheen will have a “significant ownership stake in the series” that was inspired by the film about an anger management therapist who appears to need more counseling than his patients.

“I have been fortunate to work with Charlie Sheen on six hit films,” said Roth in a statement, in reference to movies like Major League, Young Guns and The Three Musketeers. “Now to have Charlie, the number one comedy star on TV, doing Anger Management, feels like a perfect fit.  And I could not be happier than being back at Fox with John Landgraf and Chuck Saftler.”

Added Lionsgate Television Group President Kevin Beggs, “The FX brand epitomizes creative excellence and risk-taking combined with entrepreneurial business acumen.  Partnering with them on Anger Management is a no-brainer and we are thrilled to bring Charlie Sheen, Bruce Helford and this amazing creative team to the FX family of original series.”

In July, Sheen announced his intentions to follow up his successful (and turbulent) run on Two and A Half Men with Anger Management. “I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept,” Sheen said in a statement at the time. “It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth.”

In the meantime, Sheen has made a series of TV appearances in which he comes across as a much happier and far more stable man. He appeared on the Emmys in September and went on the Today Show, where he told Matt Lauer he’d be up for a guest spot on Two and a Half Men. He also appeared on The Tonight Show where he talked about leaving Men and how “I would have fired my ass too,” before adding, “well, maybe not like they did.”

WHOA! What a score for Sheen getting on FX.

They very easily could turn this from the originally envisioned single-camera sitcom, and turn it into something a bit more artsy like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia or Rescue Me.
