VINCE NEIL: 'If You Want To Have Longevity In This Business, You've Gotta Grow Up' - Aug. 31, 2011
Earlier this week, Meltdown of Detroit, Michigan's WRIF 101.1 FM radio station conducted an interview with MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below. A couple of excerpts follow.
On how some people are saying he is singing better than ever:
Vince: "I don't know… It's just coming out great. [Laughs] I think maybe just after all these years, my voice has finally matured. It's like I have the use of my full vocal range — from the really high stuff to the low stuff. It's been so much fun singing and having people go, 'Yeah, you sounded great.'"
On former WARRANT singer Jani Lane's passing after a long battle with alcoholism:
Vince: "WARRANT toured with MÖTLEY back in the old days, and even with my solo band, we did a lot of shows with WARRANT. It's just sad that no one could kind of take the reins and say, 'Dude, you need to stop. You need to slow down. You need to do something.' But I guess when you're that far into your addiction, you just don't listen to people."
On whether somebody ever told the members of MÖTLEY CRÜE that they had to slow down their partying ways if they wanted to have a long career in the music business:
Vince: "Well, yeah. They kept telling us. And then we'd slow down and we'd start up again and they'd tell us again. I remember back in, like, '86 or '87, management canceled our 'Girls, Girls, Girls' European tour, because they said one of us was gonna die. And then we straightened up, then we didn't. I think once you get older, too, you've gotta slow down; you just can't do what you were doing when you were in your 20s. So we are the lucky ones."
On how hard it is when you're a 25-year-old guy on top of the world making millions of dollars to resist the drugs and the women and everything:
Vince: "Well, that's a tough thing — it's really hard. And most people go through that when they do have the money and the fame all of a sudden. But the smart ones know that you can't live that lifestyle, you can't keep going. If you want to have longevity in this business, or any business, you've gotta grow up — eventually."

He did sound good when I saw him a month or two ago.. I was impressed.
