I've been advised by my doctor not to attend this show or any show until we know the full extent of my hearing loss. Its my fault for not going to the doctor back in 2006 when I got tinnitus in my left ear. I just let it go and kept on business as usual but now my right ear is fucked up as well. While I love Soundgarden and many other artists/bands, they're not worth going deaf over.

I'm depressed over this as seeing them live is on my bucket list, but its gonna have to wait.

I've also been advised to stop listening to loud music at home and in my car which is something I do just about every day.

Sucks getting old kids. My hearing loss is likely caused by a combination of the pain pills and listening to blaring music so much in my teens.

The latter is FAR more likely. I've known tons of former roadies that lost half if not more of their hearing and they hadn't even hit their 40's. Why? Fuckin' Amps for years man.

There was a singer or a guitarist in a real famous rock band awhile back, can't remember for the life of me who it was, but they had shit loads of hearing loss from listening to music too loud and amps over the years.

Anyways, sucks dude - try to get better.

EDITORIAL CORRECTION:

I've recently learned after consulting some more professional wisdom other than the 28 voices in my head, that Mr. Lofton was in fact initially correct and/or advised correctly that pain pills, even regular use over an extended period of time, regardless of abuse, can lead to continued tinnitus, hearing loss, and even possibly going deaf.

My apologies

I decided to go check the set list for the show I should have went to, and it was incredible. They actually performed Drawing Flies. Not my favorite song by any means but the first time it had been performed since the breakup. First time for Head Down since reuniting and its one of my favorite SG songs.

01. Searching With My Good Eye Closed

02. Spoonman

03. Room a Thousand Years Wide

04. Jesus Christ Pose

05. Blow Up the Outside World

06. The Day I Tried to Live

07. My Wave

08. Ugly Truth

09. Fell on Black Days

10. Loud Love

11. Drawing Flies

12. Outshined

13. Nothing to Say

14. Rusty Cage

15. Black Hole Sun

16. Black Rain

17. Burden in My Hand

18. Head Down

19. Superunknown

20. 4th of July

21. Beyond the Wheel

22. Pretty Noose

23. Like Suicide

24. Slaves and Bulldozers

That set is insane. Could live without Ugly Truth and Loud Love, but that list is as close to perfect as it gets. Only room for improvement is deep cuts from Down on the Upside. Such a killer selection of Superunknown tracks.

That 1-2-3 punch of Head Down, Superunknown, and 4th of July would have caused me to shit my pants.

I love how they don't let Black Hole Sun be an encore tune. They place it in the middle of the set like it's just any other song.

What would be funny is if they DID save Black Hole Sun for the encore, played a few bars of it as an intro to Slaves & Bulldozers, then ended the show.

So all the hipsters who showed up there to be "cool" stood there for that whole show, and still never heard Black Hole Sun... which I always personally thought was one of the biggest B-side pieces of garbage to ever become a hit in the 90's.

Thank you....

No.  The BEST thing they could do is the same thing they did for the Nudedragons show last year.  They did not play Black Hole Sun and instead their last song was a cover of the Door's "Waiting for the Sun."  I got a good chuckle out of that.

I might not classify it as garbage, but it is one of the worst songs on the album. If we remove Kickstand from the equation, it IS the worst song on the album.

Superunknown is a masterpiece, but if you take Black Hole Sun off the album and put Kyle Petty in its place, it's absolutely flawless.

The song by itself isn't that bad but I always hated how it became so huge that it became a misrepresentation of the album. Ask a hardcore fan or Joe Blow about Superunknown, first thing that pops into their head is Black Hole Sun.

I pity the fools who only know that song and never dove into that record. It's one of the darkest albums ever recorded. Mailman is haunting. Whoever Cornell is directing those lyrics towards(probably his ex wife or an ex girlfriend) is lucky he didn't kill them.

I won't deny the power of that album, but I was always a Badmotorfinger nutswinger. I really thought that was their crowning achievement. For me THAT is an absolutely flawless album that I can listen to from beginning to end, and love every moment including the dead air between fades.

Now Superunknown, I always check out when Black Hole Sun comes on. Maybe it's because it was shoved down my throat or whatever, but I just never liked that song. It's gotta be the song, because the big Seattle band hits I always liked. Teen Spirit, Man In The Box, Even Flow, all of those songs put those other guys on the map, and I loved them all.

People didn't really stand up and pay attention to SG until Black Hole, and I just could never get into it. I thought Room A Thousand Years Wide was a far bigger "radio ready" gun. That's a hooky, casual fanbase song I hold up and go "fuck yes".

I don't know what it is, i'd rather hear Black Rain than Black Hole Sun.
