I know people like to blame the stage designers, etc. and rightfully so.  But it seems as if Mother Nature gets more fearsome by the day.  Some of this stuff (weather) comes out of nowhere and before you know it, it's too late.

Anybody going to a fuckin' Panic At The Disco show... seriously?

God and the Devil are tag teaming to just fuck with those people - you know it.

This is supposedly one of the world's best festivals, and the organization usually is top notch. It's the type of festival people go to even the programming happens to be shit that year; more of a social event than anything else. The death toll is up to 5 now...

I remember being there in 2002 when GNR headlined on Sunday (the ill-fated first attempt at a Chinese Democracy world tour), it poured for three whole days, tents literally floating on 5 inches of water. They handled it almost perfectly, completely draining the terrain (by drilling 3 feet deep, four inch wide holes in the ground into looser soil) and ensuring dry places to eat and rest but it still was a miserable affair. Seeing GNR for the first time in my life was probably the only reason I didn't pack it up and go home, but almost no-one left 'cause of the weather, the vibe was still amazingly positive.

I guess those 10 minutes of absolute mayhem were just too much for any type of outdoor event to come out of unscathed. I really do hope they have good insurance, this is the type of thing that could kill an organization like this and that would be a damn shame.

You always have to be respectful about shit like this, obviously. But humor is a great way to cope with bad fortune in general. Furthermore I don't believe you can really expect people to really be impacted by stuff happening that far away from home. You'd be suicidal if you actually really cared about everything you hear on the news.

Seeing as how this went down about 30 miles from where I was at that time yesterday, probably in the middle of the exact same storm, I feel I have a right to say that people should be able to joke about this wink.

All I'm trying to say is, lighten up, I wasn't offended and I doubt anyone close to the casualties isn't reading this particular board right now, so what's the harm?

yea fair enough.
i did actually smile @ russ's sugarland comment. but i'm sure some [other] jerk made a similar comment about the GnR fan's that died or the PJ fans @ Roskilde.

i do feel a sadness when stuff like this happens. people are there for a good time. for me certain rock concerts (gnr when they're on form, spiritualized) are the only time i feel genuinely free & connected to something & it's just fucking devastating that something sacred can be wrecked in such a harrowing way. i mean there have been deaths @ concerts & public gatherings since time immemorial but it doesn't mean it isn't a shame & a waste.

I hear you, but I think when you get to Heaven and you say you died while GNR was playing at Donnington, that holds you in much higher regard than dying at a Sugarland show.  I'm just guessing that's not going to get you as much respect up there.

In all seriousness, obviously horrible tragedies, and they're becoming way too commonplace.  That's why I buy shitty seats, away from the stage.  Yeah, that's it.
