It seems to me that Axl's got his head on right when it comes to expectations in the US and what size of venue would be right for them. Wasn't California in 06 mostly theaters and that one festival KROQ-thingy...?

And on Eddie Trunk he said something like: "We wanted do something small (about the Hammerstein-shows), so that we would look cool doing it, rather than being forced to do it, hahaha!"

He also said about the US: "It's just a tougher road here about the whole old-band-stuff"

So in my view, Axl dosen't seem to be in any form of cocoon or delusion when it comes to GNR's position in the US-concert-industry.

It IS a tougher road in the US with this old band stuff. No wonder he goes to South America where the love is. I would too.

So it should be. They were the quintessential american rock band. They were the Led Zeppelin of America. That's the way I always thought of them.
Personally I wouldn't go see Zep if they had some guy that looked like bucket onstage because he wouldn't be Jimmy and it wouldn't be Led Zeppelin.

That said I did go see GNR when they came around BUT, New GNR is a band that could not have existed in any other time period.

The reason some of us online die-hards accept this as Guns N Roses is because we've followed the musicians online. We've followed their stories and have some kind of affinity towards at least a couple of them.

You'd be hard pressed to find a die-hard that didn't respect Tommy. There are many too with great regard for bumblefoot. But, would that be the case without the internet? I don't think so. I wouldn't give a flying fuck about bumble if he hadn't replied so positively to my emails back in 06 urging me to go do music technology in college and keep the dream alive.

New GNR is an internet phenomenon. If it weren't for their online fan-shizzle Buckethead would be GNR's Jimmy Crespo.
There'd be a lot less respect for bucket if we couldn't download his entire catalogue free online.

Fucking Internet man. Fucking Internet.

Axl Rose + the Internet = Nu-Gnr

yea but there's a solution to that tougher road - the answer is, work harder.

release something. anything. a video on youtube (tho preferably no cat footage, enough with the cat's already, ok?)

is his ego too big to play smaller arena's?? & do it all over again? he should play more gigs than he does in the US, i don't think anyone can really argue against that. he could be doing one-off appearances or chat shows anything to let his voice be heard by people who could become US fans again..
there's no apparent desire to improve relations with US fans & really until the market decides to cater for their tastes there'll not be the demand to provide fresh merchandise (albums/blu-ray's) to the rest of us either.. so much time is being wasted. again.

I know they haven't toured the US in quite awhile.  I know their last attempt didn't go so well.  There's nothing to indicate that either is going to change any time soon.

True, and who knows.  Maybe that's a major reason they haven't been able to set up a US tour as of yet, although I think the lawsuit with Azoff played into it a fair bit.  Maybe they are setting their sights too high to play arenas and larger venues and they're finding it hard to make it a profitable venture.  We really don't know at this point, all we can do is speculate.  Such is life as a GNR fan.  But until we see a US tour list or hear that the band is losing massive amounts of money on touring, it seems a bit premature to say they NEED to change their ways.  If they do in fact NEED to, they will.  They haven't yet, so I assume that means they're still floating with their heads above water.

Also with the state of the US economy right now, attendance numbers will probably be lower than before.  I don't think the concert industry is exactly booming at the moment.  Good timing has never been a strong suit of this band.  Release "Chinese Democracy" when record sales begin to hit an all time low.  Tour the US when the economy is in the shitter.  Nice!

Bon Jovi and U2 are having no problems

For the second time, I'm NOT COMPARING GNR to U2 or BON JOVI.  You are.  If you want to do that, fine, but it's a completely different scenario.  I don't think I have to tell you that, but you keep bringing up the comparison.
