Re: The Wrestling thread
Punk is so over right now. I don't understand why they don't push him alot smarter than they do.
Vince finally got ahold of a mega-talented, virtuoso wrestler that actually knows his way around a mic and has that face/heel thing going on like Austin did.
I'm not shocked at all that Stone Cold said in a recent interview that Punk was the most Austin-like guy today in the WWE.
Re: The Wrestling thread
Well, Comic Con security lead Punk to the room and were waiting at the door to let him in, so he didn't crash the event, they were all obviously expecting him. The pop he got was fantastic, though. Very telling.
I've never considerd HHH as big as Austin, The Rock, or Hogan, but he was always great on the mich when put in good situations, especially as a heel. Punk vs HHH could be as good as the Austin/Vince feud. Which was awesome, imo. And they've NEVER been able to duplicate it no matter how many times they've tried.
Re: The Wrestling thread
I agree with Russ. Only way this works is if Hunter brings his "Cerebral Assassin" angle to the ring.
If he goes camp and tries to out-Rock, The Rock... it won't work. It'll be too hokey to take it seriously.
He's forgotton why he was a great heel in the early 2000's against Austin/Rock/HBK, and that was because he was assassin like that was a dirty cheater, who still wasn't afraid of a fight. Somewhere along the line he reverted to his DX-persona, and stayed there because it was easier for him to be that character, rather than the evil menace "The Game"/"The King of Kings" was.
Re: The Wrestling thread
Apart from Money In The Bank being a great PPV, i think people are getting carried away.
Same old freshen up Raw (using the same formula) angle with way too many logic gaps, like why would Mysterio agree to defend the title to Cena an hr after winning it and why did those mathes even happen if Punk had already signed a new contract?
The authority fiqure changing and Vince lossing control angle has been so many times in the past 12 years, must be at least 30 or so by this point? Triple H has even ran the company (on air) at least twice before too.
I'm as jadded as a wrestling fan as I am a "Guns N' Roses" fan, the more things change the more they stay excatly the same.
