Re: The Wrestling thread
Ok. So I saw the opening to Raw and forgot to tune back in later to see what developed.
I went to a few wrestling sites and read what happened on the end of Raw. Am I wrong or is the "HHH Taking Over" angle not that big of a deal?? As I said, I only read up on it, so maybe it was far more exciting to watch then it sounds?
I watched the entire show on Monday and it was actually pretty good except for the ending. Out of the two WWE wrestling shows, RAW has the least amount of wrestling. So it was refreshing to see a show that focused on mainly wrestling and not that sportz entertainment crap. RAW has been unwatchable for a long time.
I guess the end isn't a big deal because I've seen it before. WWE ownership storylines have always been kind of boring to me. Cena gave a pretty good promo there at the end and it's kind of wasted with that boring HHH-Vince confrontation at the end. That and HHH will probably come back and give another boring 20 minute promo to start the show next week.
On a positive note, the Money in the Bank PPV was quite good. Another thing--those CM Punk t-shirts that were sold at the PPV have been going for insane prices on ebay. Some guy on another site sold a CM Punk shirt on ebay for $510. I asked him how much he bought the shirt for at the arena and he said $30. He was going to keep it too but you can't turn down that much profit.
Re: The Wrestling thread
It was easily the best PPV of the year and for years, Punk vs. Cena lived up the hype. Only Triple H vs. Taker at Wrestlemania was better imo.
I don't think the last RAW was as bad as it normally gets, but the Triple H as heel or new a authority fiqure thing is something we've seen before.
The presumable Punk vs. Triple H feud in a few months should be something.
Re: The Wrestling thread
Hmm, thx for the insight.
They've tried to push HHH for years that he could be an anti-authority heel, both in and out of DX, but the bottom line is despite how different his character is to "son in law" HHH to Vince, it's just too much of a reach.
HHH will never, ever be Austin or Rock vs. the McMahon's. The charisma and interest just isn't there. The only guy I could imagine with a push like that is Punk.
Re: The Wrestling thread
This can work well for HHH if they move him completely into an authority figure role. That means dropping "The Game" gimmick (including the music) and have him be an on screen authority figure. He can start of as a tweener and then move to heel. If they do this, then this whole angle could play out well. If it becomes a McMahon-In-Law Vs McMahon feud then this is dumb because this will be the same as it's always been just with more worked shoots.
That's the exciting thing about all this. If it plays out well this could be the start of a new era in Wrestling, some are already naming it the "Real" Era or something. And I can definitely see that. Sure worked shoots lose their luster after a while but if they can be kept fresh and still be worked inside the confines of the wrestling world and blur the lines then this could turn out really good.
What they need is they need Punk getting lots and LOTS of exposure in the media without ever appearing on WWE TV. He needs to be appearing in TMZ like he did on Sunday/Monday. Get photos of him appearing at events (like the Cubs game) in the media. Have him do interviews, get him on Kimmel and have him do all these appearances in character/out of character, and have him really blur the lines between which of his actions are worked and which are legit.
Re: The Wrestling thread
^^
That would be brilliant. Because in today's viral media world, that's how stuff spreads.
But Vince would never do it. It'd be out of his control eventually, and he never NEVER likes to let his wrestling characters get bigger than the company itself.
He likes to spread rumor, but his way, and in-house.
Re: The Wrestling thread
What is the deal with Punk? Did he get a new WWE contract? I hear WWE and ROH might be working together.
Edit: Nevermind.
Looks like HHH and Punk worked an angle at Comic Con today. So I reckon Punk is still with the company. This could get good.
